What causes the idle to drop out of spec? I am waiting till my 6K checkup to fix this problem but my idle seems to be at 1000rpm. It doesn't stall when warmed but it does not help start up. Would after market pipes contribute to a lower idle?
Model and year of your bike?
Oh, hey, its an '06 S2R800.
If you've installed after market pipes, but haven't readjusted your fueling to correct for the free flowing exhaust, it can cause idle to drop. It's not a major issue. You can do the quick and dirty, and manually adjust the idle, by turning the idle speed screw. You need to do this once the motor has been running, and has come up to nominal operating temps... usually best done after a decent ride. If you do it on a cold motor, then once the motor is up to temp, your idle will be crazy high! Be aware, this will have you running very rich, so you may experience detonation in the pipe, or some minor flame out/popping on deceleration and engine overrun. It can be kinda cool, unless you're the guy following behind the flaming pipes! mo:t: :o
To do it correctly, which is ultimately the right way, you need to have the CO and HC values adjusted. On your particular ECU, this means a trip to the dealer. Adjusting idle trim/fuel mixture is a function of the DDS or Mathesis units. These are dealer only tools, as per Ducati's guidelines, although there are a few "Ducati only" performance shops that have purchased the rights and use them as well.
IMO, I'd schedule with the dealership to have it done, and in the meantime you can adjust the idle speed screw to get you by.
Would the answer be the same for a 2001 M900sie?
Cant be exactly the same because the 900 is a carby.

2000+ 900s are injected. The 2000 900 is the 1st injected Monster made. Smaller displacement Monsters were carbys for a couple more years.
All monsters 2002 and later, M900's 2000 and later, and all S4 were fuel injected.
