No chop....

For a rainy day and for visual appearance WITH a rider on it (especially a big guy like me)

Part of me want to chop my tail, then a little voice says "there's no going back!"  SO Now I think the carbon shorty tail is a GOOD compromise.

Chop that pregnant dog [evil]

When I chopped mine everyone that saw my bike before and after said it looks 10 times cooler with the chop.  Who cares about getting more wet in the rain.  You're already wet.  The layout of my cookie 1 tail chop puts the plate in line with most of the rooster tail anyways.  You can also keep a length of aluminum under the seat and put it on when it is raining to block the trail.

( In Arnold Voice) DO IT! CHOP IT! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR! DO IT! AWLALALWALALWLALAL

Remember in Austin Powers, when Fred Savich (I think that's his name) had that BIG mole on his face. And Austin just couldn't get past looking at that HUGE mole?
THAT is what the ugly stock rear fender looks like to me.
UGLY! It looks like a parachute!

So, it's up to you. Can you stand riding around on a cool bike with a big MOLE hanging off the back end?

:)

No chop for me either, but I like the way a chop looks.  Maybe after I've had it a while and I'm ready for a change...

Chopped both of them.  I like to have my signals small and my plate higher than the tire. It was my right of passage owning a Monster.

I chopped mine last Saturday, it looks 10 times better.. I did the tail chop and cut the cans down( high mount ) as far as "no going back" I handed the amputated portion off to a machinist @ work, hes going to find a rod that will fit it tight then drill mounting holes in it and the bike frame. That way it can be put back on if/when I decide to sell it.  I took a lot of pics and measurements while doing it. I'm in the process of doing a write up one it tp post here.

I'm sorry, but this Poll can not be accepted.

Unless there is a Boobies option, This poll does not exist.

Once you chop the tail, it snowballs.

Next, you'll have to chop the cans.

Now the signals look funny-need smaller ones.

Heck-now the rear signals don't match the fronts.

Don't do it!

Why not?  That means more spare parts for the people that like to keep their bike stock...   :-\

Almost everyone I've talked to about my bike (motorcyclist or not) has asked me what the hell that thing on the back of my seat is.  One guy even said, "when are you gonna get rid of that duck bill on the ass end?" (no pun intended).  While I do like the fairly lengthened look of jap bike saddles, that part of the monster screams to be ripped off, frame cutting or not.  I think they should have kept the tail short straight out of the factory (a la Buell) and made some sort of modular fender for all you rainy day folks.  Ok, I kinda regret the Buell comment, I use it only as a comparison.  Speaking of which, a guy rolled by me on the highway on a 1125r and it looked a lot less sexy than I remember.  The tail was too short (oddly enough) but any time I see some one on a chopped monster I'm required to go change my pants.  Lop it off!

I went extreme on my tail chop!  http://www.flickr.com/photos/taddoni/2793918831/  Seriously I vote chop it, the lines look so much nicer. stock tail looks like it was made to satistfy some regulation, an afterthought.

For all that pregnant dog about rain riding with a tail chop:

You are in the f'n rain!!! Nothing short of just not riding is gonna change that.  Your gonna get wet.  The other traffic on the road WILL kick up road grime at you anyway .  What's the big f'n deal?  Yeah, you might get some road grime on your back,...so what...you're still in the rain.

A wet backpack is better than a wet and muddy backpack :).
