Title: Cromo Tank - Not so cromo?
Post by: chipazzo on August 29, 2008, 01:34:33 PM
So I'm crusing ebay for tanks and I see this... -> linky (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts-Accessories_Motorcycle-Parts-Accessories__Ducati-Monster-Cromo-Gas-Petrol-Tank-New_W0QQitemZ230286264406QQddnZPartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQadnZMotorcycleQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQddiZ2811QQadiZ2863QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item230286264406&_trkparms=72%3A543%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245)

It's listed as a cromo, and my it's shiny.  But my question here (and to the seller) is don't the cromo tanks all have an embossed ducati logo on them?  I don't see one here.  I just wanted to throw this out there incase this listing is not 100% accurate.

Its just a sticker that can easily be peeled of with a sharp knoife and some oil or degreaser.

The raised Ducati logo on a Cromo tank is just a sticker?

I had an '01 Cromo and the raised metal (maybe plastic?) lettering sure didn't look like it was held on by a sticker. I never really tried to pry it off though.  ???

If it wasnt a sticker, how do you think they affixed it? lol my road racing tank was raised letters, it was also glued on and then clear coated.

It's an adhesive backed deal....

call it a sticker...

an emblem...

whatever you want.

It's not part of the tank.

The '01 injected Cromos have raised metal lettering adhered to the tank.....'99 carby Cromos had a more subtle flat sticker decal.  It looked like it could have been etched into the finish, but I am guessing it a was a sticker as I have only seen the '99 tanks in pictures.

Exactly correct. Call them whatever you want but both versions had things "stuck" on.

I think its a raised plastic lettering on the 01, dont think its metal.  Will go to the garage and check in a few minutes.  The 99 has lettering in traditional flat sticker form.
