Title: Surfboard rack on a 749
Post by: mstevens on August 30, 2008, 08:30:10 PM
(Yeah, I know it's not Monster-related, but the "No Moto Content" section didn't seem right and I doubt this is an appropriate Accessory or Mod for a Monster.)

A mechanic over on Modern Vespa has posted a bunch of pics of a surfboard rack he put on his buddy's 749.

that 749 looks like it wants to be a beach cruiser when it retires.

He should have saved his money, and spent it on some gear.

I bet lefthand turns are pretty scary.  I'm glad they added a spot where he could put is foot down, at first it looked as though if you came to a stop and leaned left, it was over.  Very cool, I'm thinking about rigging something similar up for my hockey sticks.  I don't think I have pic anymore but I used to ride mountain bikes with a guy who welded up a bike rack for the back of his old CB something or other.  It was pretty amusing to see a 3000 Klein mounted haphazardly to a bike worth 1/3 that.

Pretty impractical idea from anyone who actually surf's perspective. Where you gonna put your gear while surfing? Where you gonna store your surfing gear on the way there? Where you gonna store your wet gear on the way home? A grom with a bike strapped on his cruiser for a summer run to the beach is one thing (he's wearing his trucks, and locks the bike to some railing near the beach). Leaving $1,000 in riding gear out is another. The nasal drain inside the helmet will be nice as well. :)

wow.  That looks unsafe.  Emergency lane change to the left and . . . uh oh, out of ground clearance!

Hah!  Very cool.  Anyone seen him?  He has CAL plates, I wonder if he's in SoCal.

Surfboard racks on bikes are fairly common in Hawaii:

One of the first times I ever posted on the old board I asked if anyone had ever done this.  I was ridiculed, called stupid, and told it would be a terrible idea.  I'm glad to see there's another stupid guy with a terrible idea out there.

I've moved about 10 miles inland now, so my trip to the beach requires freeway time, so I've given up on the idea for now.  Someday, I'll set this up on an old enduro bike so I can explore the Baja peninsula.
