been sitting in a showroom or this dudes garage for 5 or 6 years... damn! should be interesting to see what it goes for, probably not as much as the seller is hoping though...

Look at his other auctions!

Those new Ohlins Forks are awesome. [thumbsup]
Translation: needs about $2k worth of "freshen up" work before its rideable.
Also, I'm auctioning a kidney to help me pay for this one.
Did you see the Bimota db4 he has listed? I want it -- BADLY. It would be a very expensive bike to replicate given what is listed and bolted on that bike.

Yeah, I think I might get in on that bid.
"I only ask that whoever gets this bike that I get to ride it"
strange thing for the owner to say. Why hasn't he ridden it while it was his if he wants to ride it? ???
Cause he wants t keep it showroom condition to retain the value...

Stingy make the beast with two backser didn't want to pay for the 6k service.
Or even the 600 miles service...
I think I may ask the seller a question on one of his auctions and just ask if he'll be my friend.

I got $50 for a kidney. ;D
Dude needs to put some miles on those toys. What's the point of having two turbe 911s that sit in a garage? That's a sin.
Quote from the 996 listed that has 16,221 miles
QuoteThis is a very well cared for and extremely clean 996 that is ready to be ridden for many miles before the next service is due.
So, many miles is about 1,800 before the next service?
JM
Something is strange here. Most vehicles have a few miles when delivered. Dyno after assembly and road test before delivery = more than 1 mile.
I believe it is not good for any vehicle to sit for months and years without running. The spotless exterior covers up a lot of internal problems.
The '64 Riviera my dad and I restored taught me that lesson a long time ago.
The engine's oil will drain thanks to gravity, leaving bare the the cylinder walls, heads, bearings, etc.
Oxidation and rust set in. I believe some Japanese bikes have plasma coating on the engine cyclinder walls, but not Ducati.
New owner comes along, puts the key in, cranks it over, damage is done, then wonders why it runs so crappy.
I would rather buy a well-maintained, normally operated machine any day over any of these.
Long-term storage of high-performance vehicles is a very tricky propositon. It's better to run 'em.
That's my take on it.
158K for a 993 turbo Porsche? That's make the beast with two backsed up. Those bidders are complete and total morons. Let's see, I can go buy a new Porsche 911 with a few options... OR I could pay the same for this 11 year old one which is slower, less refined and used.

The $158K is already $6k more than he spent on it at the reserve hasn't been met yet. WTF?

It's called using eBay to publicize you are selling something but not wanting to sell it via eBay. It works. Someone then posts the ID for the listing and everyone looks at it via discussion forums, etc. People talk. Very cheap form of advertising. Easy enough to contact the person to do a transaction later. Done every single day...

Ducati cylinders are nikasil coated. They won't rust.
Everything else will. ;)
