Has anyone seen that thing? me wants it REAL bad...look at forks and brakes, dual front discs...now if only Kawi made a 500cc version of the ninja in the 2008 250R body..

I have seen the 650 version in person and it was pretty bad.  The inverted forks were not cartridge forks, I don't even think they had anything inside of them at all.  My 1983 Honda Shadow had better suspension.  The build quality was terrible.  For the price the Ninja 250 and the SV650 are way better deals than the 250 and 650 Hyosungs.

It's a pig (for a 250) and seriously underpowered.  Even one of the old school Ninja 250s would stomp on that Hyosung, and the Ninja is only one step up from a kick scooter.  I used to race one.

I love the idea of a modern looking 250 with modern components like a real frame, real forks and real brakes.  But the 08 Ninja 250R is much closer to that than the Hyosung.  Of course, g'luck finding a Ninja 250R for MSRP or anywhere near that.

They have been selling the Hyo's here in Australia for quite a while now, and they have a reputation for being absolute piles of steaming Shite!

One of the other boards I haunt has dozens of horror storys, parts failing, bits falling off, engines seizing, parts rusting (having not been in the rain) and just very poor quality control.

They have just appointed a new dealer here in town, and like every other one they appoint, they take it on, 12 months later they dump it because of overwhelming drama's with service and parts back up.
They must have been desperate here in Cairns, they gave the dealership to a guy that sells 2nd hand dirt bikes, I only hope this poor prick realizes what he has just let himself in for....  [bang]

I know a guy with the UM V2S-250R and I think he's put well over 5000 miles on it without a single problem.....so far. He also has an older Ninja 250 and an SV650. IIRC, he actually likes the UM better than his '06 Ninja. I'm curious to see how long it takes for the UM to give him problems. His Ninja has some major engine issues at around 15k miles, and he hasn't gotten it repaired, yet.

The fact that in the description they are boasting about how great the headlights would make me nervous about the bike.  Should they say something about the engine, brakes or suspension?

"The GT250R shares the distinct styling of the GT650R featuring a 2 stage projection beam for greater visibility and VFD ("Vacuum Fluorescent Display" commonly used in luxury automobiles for the digital displays)."

^Who cares? [roll]

Here is a good review of the Hyosung 250R vs Ninja 250R...MCN thinks the Ninja is a much better bike.

I actually have the naked 2007 GT250 as my daily commuter/beater, and it's great.  I was on the market for a 250 because it was my first bike ever, and I like the naked look.  I was also considering a SV650, but lots of people told me it would be better to start out on a 250.  Also I like that the GT250 is a V-Twin, compared to the Ninja I4 250.

It's definitely underpowered, but the gas mileage is great!

The brakes and suspension aren't the greatest, but they're not that bad.  The big thing about these bikes is that most of the dealerships don't know how to put them together correctly.  So, make sure that you have a really good dealer if you're gonna buy one.  SFMoto in San Francisco is great, and I've had 6000 trouble free miles on my GT250 so far.

Regarding bars, you can put Woodcraft clip on's on the naked version, and the GT250R comes with clip ons.

Even though I have an '01 S4 now, I still commute most of the time on the Hyosung.  It's better for low speed lanesharing, which is most of my commute.... (east bay into San Francisco).

Here's a pic of my GT250:

my friend bought the cruiser version of the 250 hyosung, but he didn't have a motorcycle license yet so I road it 2 hours home for him.  It ran well, but the build quality was horrible.  Bad welds, bad paint toward the bottom of the tank- and it was BRAND NEW!  I'd rather buy a different brand used for the same price as a new hyosung.

The naked version looks cool!  Makes me wish honda would import the vt 250, thing looks just like a monster!

I talked to an 'UM' rider at a gas station the other day, he likes the bike ok, put 7500+ trouble free miles on it but wanted to trade it in for an R1 but the dealership offered him $600.00 !! and acted like they were doing him a favor, These cheapie Korean and Chinese bikes have no resale value whatsoever.  Something to keep in mind if you are considering one.

There are a couple out on the local track. They don't compete as well as the other bikes on the track, but I haven't seen any blow an engine yet either.
