Title: CLutch fluid emptied on long ride, slave culprit
Post by: cutter on September 05, 2008, 04:18:29 PM
I went for a ride last weekend around Newport RI and area and at one point I felt a strange sensation in my clutch lever. As the ride progressed I was getting less and less pull in my clutch. Got to the point 30 min from home that when I stopped I could get enough clutch to keep from stalling but had to keep the front brakes on to keep from moving. Got on the highway and couldn't shift so I figured that was enough for safeness. I was able to send my GF to get some fluid and I bled it with a friend and got home. Looks like the fluid drained out of the seam of the slave cylinder. I know this is fairly common, and a lot of people replace the slave, but financially that isn't an option right now as I'm getting married in a few weeks. I'm going to pull off the slave , clean and bleed again this weekend while the hurricane blows by, any tips? I looked at the parts diagram, and it didn't look like there was a gasket to replace?

Thanks for any tips 8)

Somewhere around '01 there are no parts available for the slave.

What year is your bike?

just ash-can the stock ducati unit and pick up an 'evoluzione' slave.

best mod i ever did to the S4R.

I have had better luck with the yoydyne unit than the evoluzione slaves.
You can also just put in a evoluzione piston that i have had good luck with or just rebuild the stocker for cheap $$

Ok, so if I can't replace the slave right now due to cash constraints, is the thing going to keep leaking?

you can buy a new seal for your slave for under $10.00 and rebuild what you have . It is an easy job, probably take you 1/2 hour the first time through.

total cost should be under $15.00 plus beverages

I've rebuilt my stocker twice.

The seal was $8 last time.
