Hello,
First off - I did my best college try at using the search function - wasn't much there. I haven't gone back to TOB either.
I have a 2006 S2R800. I've noticed that after I've ridden the bike for a bit, it sometimes (not always) idles at 2000 to 3000 rpm when I stop with it in neutral. The front wheel is straight so I know the throttle cable isn't being pulled in such a way as to cause the idle to change (and no - the fast idle lever is closed ( in the up position - I'm a 'tard but not that big of a 'tard)). When I start the bike the I use the fast lever, upon take off, the lever is closed and the idle is normal (1200 rpm) so I don't think it is interfering with the throttle otherwise it would be happening all the time. I also checked the free play on the throttle it is right at 4mm - also the throttle, when twisted, comes right back so I don't think the cable is causing the problem - just to be safe I'll lube it up. So far this issue that hasn't caused me too much concern since the bike behaves normal once I get going.
Other info: initially, the bike was running too lean so I had the local dealership adjust the ECU with their DDS so the TPS was zero'ed when CO level was say 4 to 5%. After this change the idle bumped up a bit to 1200 rpm from maybe 900 to 1000 rpm (I can't really remember). I took off that God awful cow udder (replaced with straight pipes) but otherwise the exhaust is stock, the air filter/intake is stock. Since it is an 800 it doesn't have an O2 sensor. The bike doesn't backfire when decelerating so I don't think I'm now running too rich.
I would like to hear anyone's thoughts on this little problem.
Thanks,
Rob
Since the bike is fuel injected I would still suspect cables. Re check everything, including the possibility of the grip touching the bar end. Next, look for vacuum leaks. Sometimes the intake runners loosen up.
My fuel injected ST2 did that when I first got it. Getting the throttles synchronized was the solution.
When the two throttle bodies are not synchronized properly, one will be open a little bit more than the other allowing a faster idle when you bring the engine down from higher speed. Once the engine slows down it tends to stay there.
Anyway, get the throttle bodies synchronized and it should make the problem go away.
[coffee]I've had the same thing happen on my 02 620; wants to idle at 2000 rpm intermitently. Went through the whole twistgrip throttle cable system, nothing wrong. Might be a vacuum leak to one cylinder, that could cause it to act like a synch problem. Only happens when the engine gets hot 200+ degrees. I'm going to check all inlet fasteners, seen a few loose bolts on my bike already so it pays to put a wrench on'um once in a while.
Let ya know if it helps.
Thanks for the responses...sorta lost track with Ike rolling over Houston
