Title: Stainless bolt length question
Post by: MaxPower on September 08, 2008, 06:51:29 PM
So I'm replacing the stock bolts on my 2003 620 with stainless and the replacements for the rocker covers are all about 3mm short.
Sorry if this is a simple question (please don't let someguy read this  [thumbsup]), but am I OK with the shorter bolts?

Thanks,

MaxPower

You can easily judge how far these bolts are going in by how many turns it takes to tighten them down.  If they go in at least a few turns, it will be fine.  They are just holding the valve cover (I assume this is what you're talking about) down.  There isn't any lateral force on these covers.

Thanks, Jobu.  Already put 'em on.... and they look a lot better.

The rule of thumb is if it threads in the same amount as the bolt diameter, you're okay. IE if it's an 8mm bolt, you want it to go into the hole 8mm.
