Haven't been around lately, I've been too busy.
After weeks & months of planning and replanning, the little road trip we're about to take is finally about to happen. I'm not even sure why I'm posting this other than the fact that it's just now hitting me that we're about to leave. The jump off is of course from Gorilla and we'll be leaving tomorrow evening.
To those of you NYMMC folks to going Indy, I hope you all have a great time. Say what's up to #46 for me, I'm afraid that with the high speed straights, he doesn't stand much of a chance against the Ducati. Oh well, all he needs to do is score 1 more point than that Ducati guy in this race to secure the CHAMPIONSHIP [beer] (I think).
If I don't trail brake myself off of a cliff or wind up in jail, I'll be sure to post long ride report when we get back home :).
I hope you and the guys have a blast during your trip ! ... have a fantastic and safe ride [moto]

Godspeed, my brothers.
wishing you a great ride there and safe return :-*
I'm leaving this afternoon to indy, in a nice big cage, bikes in tow, along with Terry and Raul (fellow DESMOite). ;D
hope we all have great weather !!
looking forward to riding with you when you get back GC.
M
BON VOYAGE!
Have a great time, don't get caught and get back in one piece!
And take aspirin if you need help wiping the smiles off your face ;)
And tell us about it when you get back.

I wanted to show off some of the movies and pictures during the trip.
The boys rode "The Snake" yesterday. Here's video from the first half of the ride.
Now for a taunt...
The favorite part of the trip shall remain a secret!! 8)

End of day 3 update...
My body hurts. Arm pump, sore wrists, sore knees... haven't had this much fun on a bike in my life. And to think we have 4 more days of this... cripes.

Any updates?
Hope you are all safe.
We're in Roanoke, VA this morning - on our way back to NYC by this afternoon / evening.
Everyone is great, I took about 900 pictures and we shot HOURS of video.
However, one bike is out of commission - maybe permanently :'( :'(....
A couple of quick highlights:
1 - The Blue Ridge Parkway is quite possibly the most beautiful road in the country. AND it's incredibly fun to ride - even right at the speed limit!!
2 - The Dragon... We didn't so much "Slay the Dragon" as give it a hand-job. Between the cops, the fear of cops and the ludicrous speed limit, the guys rarely topped 30MPH the whole way. Totally anti-climactic.
3 - Take the Dragon and the movies from "The Snake" and we have a NEW RULE - If a road has a nickname - AVOID IT!!!
4 - The discovery of the trip is remaining a secret - but I will post a teaser video in a day or two.
5 - My car was vital to this trip.
Can't wait to see that video tommy, you guys get home safe!
OK everyone, I'll have a new video and a few pictures posted by midnight tonight.
As I said in another post, we found a road we're keeping secret for a few reasons.
1 - It's pretty unknown and
2 - It's intimidating and dangerous.
3 - It has no nickname - and it NEEDS to stay that way.
I can't overstate how important it is for everyone to AVOID roads with nicknames. The Dragon was not slayed - rather it was given a hand-job, possibly with it's balls being cupped and massaged. The Snake saw goldenchild get pulled over and ticketed ON THE MOUNTAIN.
Couple other thoughts:
Pigeon Forge,TN is the tackiest, most god-awful place on earth.
Asheville, NC - fun, but not THAT fun.
The incident:
Dizzle lowsided on this road and his bike suffered severe front end damage. Whether the forks, frame or other parts are still straight is an issue for the professionals, but it's UGLY.
Thankfully he lowsided on a super-tight left hand turn and even MORE thankfully his leg caught the guardrail - otherwise he would have fallen over 100 feet down a wooded cliff :o. Three cheers for Arai helmets, Knox armor and for Teknic leathers!!! [clap] [clap] [clap]. Only a bruise on his left elbow!!
More to come...

Damn man. Glad you are okay!
Phhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
I was worried about something bad for a while.
Don't wnat to see something bad happen to my NY peeps!
one good thing though, Tommy would have company in the car.
Wow dizz glad you are alright!!! That would have scared me shitless!!

Actually, Dizz's accident effectively ended the trip. We picked up a U-haul that night and drove home yesterday. Me and Dizz in my car, goldenchild and Cru Jones in the U-haul.
The supreme irony is we had only 5 miles of "fun" riding left to go before some serious commuting on highways and freeways. All three bikes basically rode about 1,500 miles over 7 days. The final mileage on my car was 2,172 miles!
I'm assuming the other guys will be posting ride reports soon. [thumbsup]
Glad to hear Dizz is ok, hope the bike isn't too beat up. [thumbsup]

Well, we made it home. I'm tired, both mentally and physically. I'm currently uploading a ton of pics and will be posting them and a trip report later on.
My initial fears have already come true... all of the roads that we ride - up in the 'Skills, around PJ, eastern and central PA... they will all now PALE in comparison compared to some of the roads we've ridden in the past week. Shit, even The Dragon doesn't compare to some of these other roads. I'm afraid our 500+ mile rides just won't be good enough anymore.
Glad to hear Dizz is relatively unharmed [thumbsup]

That's what I've always heard, incredibly overrated, swamped and generally pales in comparison to other roads in the immediate vicinity.
Sorry to hear of the accident and ticket. Glad you are OK, Dizzle, hope the bike isn't too bad.
Glad to know Dizzle came out ok after the mishap , and the rest of the US for that matter. I hope it all works out and you'll be back on the saddle soon.
Ok, finally finished uploading some of the pics except now I'm too tired to post anything further, but I'll give you a few fine examples of what our trip was like...
This ones for Tommy, he'll know what I'm talking about -
(http://i398.photobucket.com/albums/pp70/usualsuspectsmoto/IMG_0204.jpg)
The sodomy of poor old St.Nick -
(http://i398.photobucket.com/albums/pp70/usualsuspectsmoto/IMG_0410.jpg)
Poor Daytona. The upside is that Dizz walked away with barely a scratch even after smacking into the guardrail -
(http://i398.photobucket.com/albums/pp70/usualsuspectsmoto/IMG_0365.jpg)
Hopefully I'll have a full report complete with more pics up by tomorrow. Great to see you tonight Pat!!!
Here we go...
This is it.
From my YouTube Description:
"We rode this route twice.
It is possibly the most insane piece of road on the east coast. I will not reveal where it is for everyone's safety. In part 2 of this video, you will briefly see a van parked in the apex of a turn.
There are three riders in this video - the leader (GC), the video taker (Cru) and Dizzle is in third. Dizz lowsided right in front of the people with the van.
In the first part you can barely see me behind a guardrail taking pictures. In the second part, my little black family sedan gets schooled by my friends' bikes! "

video no worky??
Video is no longer available! [bang]
Guys - try again.
YouTube seems to have hiccuped.
Hell yeah! I got goosebumps just watching that again. Thanks Tommy. That's a good look at some of the road's ~30 miles. Next time, I'll need to move my camera forward (a la Snake video) to minimize the wind noise. Still, looks pretty impressive. [thumbsup]
That business is off the hook boys. [thumbsup]
Cool video, looks like some nice roads [thumbsup]

I don't disagree that the road looked intense and that warning should be given. But to decide for everyone like that? I don't think I would've done the same, but that doesn't matter. Looks like it was a lot of fun and technical.

I don't think we're not saying what road it is for people's safety, while that may be a part of it... we're not saying what road it is because this being the internet, that road will have a name and a reputation before be can get to ride it again. Seeing as how it's 3 times longer than the Dragon, probably 10 times more technical people would travel from near and far to ride it. Next thing you know, it's full of cops and squids crossing the double yellow, a Killboy set up with a "resort" placed at the end... all of which to something no good.
I found this road by looking at a map. There's no mention of it on any internet forum, nor is there any video of it (until now).
While we were there, we saw virtually NO traffic, and this includes bikes.
On our next trip down there (which will hopefully be soon), wouldn't you want to ride it as "virgin" as possible?

Pak - That's a direct quote from the YouTube description. What I tell the interwebs and what I tell to the NYMMC are two different things - I was just being supremely lazy with my post.
Besides, I already told you yesterday what road it is...

I can understand not wanting it to become too congested and popular. That will sometimes ruin future experiences on any road.

Sorry i didn't realize, thanks for clarifying.
Another thing about this road...
It's hyper technical with absolutely ZERO room for error. For 30 miles you go from redline to full on the brakes, then back to redline every 5 seconds (you can hear my bike howling in the video). Your back end will break loose at least 20 times during the course of the 30 miles ride. The video unfortunately doesn't capture the extreme elevation changes this road has.
If you ride with good form and proper technique you need to turn your head more than 180° in order to look through the corner, and you'll need to do this more than a few hundred times - and those are just some of the corners.
From 2 runs down this road my brake pads went from a decent 80% to a "need to change out ASAP" ~15%. This road is no joke. I've never been challenged like that on anything 2 wheels before, this includes all the mx riding, dh racing, and bmxing I've done.
That road looks amazing to ride ! It does not seem to have a long straight away, I have nott seen a route like it until now ... constant short twist and turns throughout, now I'm personally calling it "The Squiggly"
great find, GC [thumbsup]
There are some straights between the mountains & a few sweepers, but we didn't want to post 4 videos. Besides, sweepers look boring on a video too.
What you see is a glimpse into the road that is without a doubt the most challenging & fun road that I've ever ridden. I put our two runs on the road as my #1 & #3 best motorcycle rides (#2 being the ride with GC & Pat earlier in the summer).
Another awesome thing about this road... the speed limit it 55 mph!
I was riding somewhere in the neighborhood of ~90% the first time we through this road and I doubt we ever broke the speed limit.
On the 2nd run through we ran it faster sine we knew what to expect and even then, we only broke the speed limit on the less twisty downhill runs. Not that it matters since there in literally nobody and nothing around and there's no place for popo to hide even if they decided to patrol the area which as it stands would be highly selassie. I mean unlikely.
im gonna run the license plate number of those cars on that road and call them and ask them what road it is then im gonna post it on every board including killboy!
