Are all 180 tires trully the same or are some a bit thinner then others on their outer most lip. I have power pilots and the lip rubbs my chain. do i have options in 180's or do i need to look at 170. wait are there 170s that arn't avon slicks?
Different brands or types of tire of the same brand can have significantly different widths despite being labeled as 180.

What rim size are you mounting this 180 on?

That was going to be my 1st question.
dunno,, but you need to put 160's on your 4.5" rim
5.5 inch rim.
is it on the 98 750?
is the swingarm too narrow for the 5.5?
nope rim fit fine its just the tire its self that im haveing issues with.
Is it a steel swinger?
are steel swingarms narrower??
belive so. its just the standard ugly one.
The tire sounds to be clearing the swingarm fine.
there are a couple of things to check
1. chain alignment, if off a bunch the chain will hit the tire edge.
2. did you change the orientation of the front sprocket when you put the 5.5inch rear wheel on?
on the 4.5inch set-up the front sprocket is spaced inwards for proper alignment.
on the 5.5 inch set-up the sprocket is reversed and the outer side is flush for alignment.
good luck
I think he's on to something.

hmm thats a thought. lets see, the flat side of the front sprocket is out and the alignment looks good, nothing obvious. any better way to check then eye'n it.
I use a tape measure.
The 180 Conti Sport on back of my S2R looks miles thinner than the BT14 i had on it before. quite miffed about it I am too.
