I've searched the Tech forum but have found no threads on this.
I just installed the Termi exhaust kit on my 2008 S2R 1000 -- CF mufflers, ECM, air box lid/filter and header pipes. With the muffler "dB killers" the bike wasn't loud enough, and without them, it was way too loud for me. So I drilled 15, 1/4" holes in the inserts, and now it's about right. But...the air box noise is too much and distracts from the good exhaust note.
So I'm wondering if anyone has experimentd with different lid mods to find a good compromise between breathing and noise. One could easily drill lots of holes or otherwise cut out some of the top, but it'd be nice to have the benefit of experience before randomly cutting.
Any help appreciated! Thanx.
Wear ear plugs. ;D
cutting the airbox would probably make a significant difference in fueling since the DP kits run more on the rich side. You MIGHT be able to tone it down, but I cant guarentee you anything. PCIII is always an option.
I don't really know much about your set up but I got rid of the whole top of my airbox, after some poking around it seemed like the thing to do with the pipes I have so... I can't hear any intake noise at all from my bike. I love the sound of it.
AFAIK, all '02 and after airbox lids are the same, except for S4Rs & S4Rt (I think), and 696.
Pick one up second hand and start cutting conservatively till you like it.
+1. Cut a hole and test it out then cut another one or make it bigger.
