Title: What do you guys use to protect your visor from chips, scratches, ets?
Post by: DrNo08 on September 13, 2008, 01:31:35 AM
I just spent 50 bucks on a mirror shield and a bug the size of a hawk slammed into my shield causing the mirror coating to come off.  This thing hit me liike a rock.  Is there a clear film that's sold that doesn't distort vision and can help protect these expensive visors?  I've googled around and can't find anything.  All I can find is anti-fog inserts for the inner side, not the outer.

They have tearoffs for visors depending on your brand (though i think they pretty much all fit).

They run anywhere from 10-20 bucks for a 3 pack. IMO, i think your better of just replacing it yearly. Its gonna get scratched up no matter what. Tear offs are great if you are using a clear visor and you want to have shade, but just wanna rip it of and get a clear lens at night time.

How did you go about cleaning the bug residue off the visor ? Did you place a wet washcloth on the visor and let it lay there for 5 minutes or so  ?

Did you spray something on the visor before you wiped it off and what did you use to wipe it off with ?

Did you use a paper towel ? Did you use a Towel like a Bath Towel ? Did you use a Micro Fiber Cloth  ?

Sounds like you hit a large Beetle or a Bumble Bee. Just think of the people that ride w/ out Helmets ...that must really smart .

You want to lay a wet washcloth over your Helmet and Visor and let it lay there for at least 5 minutes to soften the bug guts and then if you don't have a Micro Fiber Cloth that won't scratch a mirrored Visor you can use a soft cotton Bath Towel to wipe your Visor gently.  Paper towels will scratch plastic like your Visor or Windscreen so don't use them , carry a washcloth or Micro Fiber Cloth w/ you when you ride.

You can buy small spray containers of Plexus which is to clean your Visor or Wind Screen. Most Ducati Parts Dept. carry it.  Dolph    :) :)

I just stay away from the fancy mirrored visors.  They tend to get fouled up faster/easier then the clear/tinted type.

They do look bad ass, but my $$$ comes first.  :-\

being the slave to fashion I am, I have a mirrored visor  :D

it'll scratch. no biggie.

I also use those eyeglass wet-nap thingies to clean mine. works great on bug guts, and is soft enough to not scratch, even when you're laying into those dried up lil'make the beast with two backsers  [thumbsup]
