Sooo, some of you might have noticed that recently my sig line was updated to include a 996. I finally got around to taking some pics and fixing most of it up.
It was a real mess when I got it. I've spent about 90-100 hours just cleaning and refinishing and working out the problems that the bike had. It still needs a ton of work. But now, at least it's starting to look decent.
Things it still needs:
A new clutch pack and pressure plate.
A new fairing stay
Put on the Mono seat
a new headlight holder
anyways, Here she is:

Thanks! you should have seen it when I first got it, it looked like such a POS.
Major props to Hiero. That man helped me clean that thing rightfully. He has some pics of what came out when we bled the clutch and brake systems. Let's just say it resembled a green sludge.
If the bike needed so much work, why did you buy it? Have you always wanted a 996? I used to ride a Yellow 996 and today on e-bay I spotted a 748R for sale that caught my eye.
Good luck and keep up the restoration!
[thumbsup]

Always wanted a 996, and the price was waaaay too good to pass up. I figured that in worst case scenario I could part out the bike and make more than I spent on it.
I dunno if you can tell by the pics but the bike has:
full aftermarket ohlins,
two sets of bodywork,
ducati corse oil cooler,
mbp collets,
megacycle rockers,
has just had the 12k mile service,
steel braided lines,
Brand new pilot powers,
and a bunch of other stuff that made it a very good deal.
Congratulation on work well done [thumbsup]
I feel like a real man just looking at that bike - can almost imagine how you feel like owning and riding one [moto] [clap]

lots of stickers huh? Guess you have to like the Fila brand. Does the other set of plastics come as stock, just in case your a Puma fan?
The Fila stickers are from the 2003 WSBK [thumbsup]
Nice work there EM... the 996 looked in dire need of help when you got it. But it looks like it's on its way to better times
*edit* wow I can't type today

Jejeje, I'm actually a puma kinda guy, but as bryant pointed out, it was the '03 wsbk livery ;D
Nice! [thumbsup] Always loved the 996, would love to find one and do the same, bit of restoration work to bring it back to it's former glory.

Thanks! good luck on your find, it's been great fun, although at some times, a bit frustrating
Wow, I had to wipe drool off the keyboard.
Is it the one that wanktard in Waco was selling?
Damn, love it man..... question though...... how the fack did somebody manage to get it so nasty in just 12k miles? Keep up the awesome work, that has to feel great to throw your leg over. [thumbsup]

Yup. He did good by us though. I can't really complain about anything.

Shit dude, I still question that. The bike has a bunch of carbon Fibre that I had/am gonna have to paint over cause it is completely damaged. I asked several shops and it was cheaper to buy the new part than to re-finish it. The black piece under the tank is a carbon fibre Corse airbox that I had to paint over due to the extent of the damage.
It appears that the bike was kept outside for a prolonged period of time without any care to it. If you look closely, you'll see that the tank doesn't exactly match the rest of the bodywork due to intense discoloration. I have polished it and refinished a lot, and that's the best I can do.
verry nice.
make sexy.
looking good, make sure you fix it up and actually ride the thing.. sure museum piece type bikes are good to look at but really a shame.
good to hear that you are painting over some stuff to make it look nice. hope you actually get to ride that thing the way it should be and ride it a lot.
good luck.
Very, very nice, congrats [thumbsup]

I put over 800 miles on it the weekend I got it [evil] If you've ever ridden a 996, you'll know that that is no small feat. [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]
None of my bikes are garage queens. Actually, I'm going to the track next weekend with the beast. The perfect track for it too!
Thanks for the compliments ;D
That's a sharp looking bike. I've always liked the Fila colors.

+1 a bike without stories is kinda sad to me..... by a painting if you want something to look at in the living room.
