Holy crap! Who in the heck do you point a finger at when something like that happens? The first bike that tipped over? The track? Mother Nature? Jeez. :P That's just ugly.

My brother did that to three of my bikes that I had in a large storage bldg. when we worked together years ago. His response, if I remember correctly, was "F@#k you little brother!" Reason number 2,347 why we don't work together any more.

Story has it that it was a white S4RS that started the dominoes.  But the parking lot is on a grade and the IMS workers were instructing people to park across the grade w/ the stands on the uphills side... /shrug

Read the thread that I linked it has some FH accounts

thanks for posting the pic B8.

I was in the stands after the race going back to the Ducati Island and returned late to the parking lot.  There is a long list of minor broken pieces but the one that counted the most was a broken front brake master cylinder clamp which made the front brake useless unless jimmy rigged for slow short distance travel back to the hotel.

I was going to visit a good firiend in Marion, IN which got scrubbed because it was an hour and a half ride and the bike could not be ridden that long safely.  I later discovered that the left side exhaust pipe was pushed into the swingarm and the rear brake footpeg was bent and binding the brake lever.  Things could have gotten really hot if I did the long ride to Marion.

No.  I exchanged info with the Safety officer of IMS.  I have the payment for the second ticket.  Check's in the mail. ;D

Chris, you know me more than you know.  I guess you get to my age and it ain't worth it sometimes to go ballistic.  Actually what bugged me more was not being able to visit my friend.  He had recently been diagnosed with cancer and was recovering from therapy.  He wanted to drive down to Indy instead and I didn't want him to exert himself so I'll try again maybe next year.

It was an experience.  Althought the track was not that great from a racers point of view, any bowl track for NASCAR with an infield course isn't impressive, the fan experience however was very good.  There are many good vantage points with stands.  The Ducati Island was very convenient to the stands reserved for Ducatii owners who signed up for the "Project Mugello".  I'm told that NBC showed the crowd in that stands with people lifting signs reading DUCATI.  The race was called wet because the track was wet but it had stopped raining at the beginning of the race.  During the 18th lap or so, it started raining until it got to big rain and strong winds which was when they called the race off.  10 minutes later, the sun came out.  Rossi was perfect I'm sad to say.  But you have to give the man his due.  Spies was impressive and Nicky rode very well.

If IMS kicks in repair money then I guess I chalk it up to "another daay above ground ..." as Brian would say.

Sorry to hear Charles, your exhaust probably fell victim to the ST3's panniers.

What parts do you need to get it back to 100%?  I'll keep an eye out for them [thumbsup]

Looking at those bikes on the ground makes me ill. You know it's a good thing you trailered up there due to the amount of damage. Which scooter are you taking to AR this weekend? Still going right?

I'm making a list and checking it twice.   ;D

I'll be bringing it to have an estimate and send it along with pics to IMS and see what they will do.

The tri- colore was pitifull to look at.

We were lined up parked on a slight grade with the kickstand on the uphill side so we were a bit vertical.  the end of the row was flat and so from the pictures, you can see that they did not fall down.  Those bike covers had to have had something to do with catching the wind and tipping over the first bike.

With so many other things I had to do at the time, making calls to set up a ride back to the hotel, trying to find out if any of the vendors might have a useable part or if Ducati Indianapolis had something they could do and calling my friend to tell him I was not going to be able to see him, I was kinda not thinking about the damage since there was nothing I could do about the damage at the moment.

I'm sure I'll be more upset tomorrow when I find out how much this will cost.  Damm, I'm getting more depressed already.   [evil]
