I'm reeaaaly curious to see what they do with the "Monster/Brutale/Tuono Crossover".  Depending on riding position, I may be trading for new.

Heard that it was going to be called a "street fighter" with the 1098 engine.  It is going to ride more upright like the hyper.   [moto]

There's also an all-new model that, “is a cross between a Tuono, Brutale and fits between Monster and Hypermotard.” It will be powered by the outgoing water-cooled 1099cc engine from the 1098, but with a smaller airbox that means less power and shotgun-style dual exhausts mounted on one side.

Reliable sources say it will be called the S4FOMG.

1098 in a Monster-ish chassis?!?  It's too much for this Ducatisti frankly...  I hope those who partake of this HP/TQ will do so responsibly.

i think if they make another naked fighter besides the monster and the HM they will be hurting themselves.

i liked it when the lineup was
SBK
SS
Monster
ST
adding the HM was ok and a different segment
the MTS replacing the ST, bad move i think
the SC replacing the SS another bad move
now the HSBK replacing the S4 monsters... i dont know

Letting go of the silly stuff.

I was reading in a recent Magazine article that the naked segment is becoming much more popular in recent years.
Public perception is they are cheaper to run (no bodywork to remove), less expensive bodywork to break in a tumble of a drop, again perception that the bikes are cheaper with out the acres of bodywork, more bike for your bucks as it were.

Thats the reason a lot of companies are revamping there naked bike line ups, the sales are going up and up, where (according to this article at least) the superbike market has slowed in it's growth by comparison.
It is still growing, but companies are looking for smaller and smaller Niches to expand into, they have to get growth upon growth year after year, create a model that goes after a small market segment and the hope is you'll have that segment all to your self.

Ducati Hyperfighter a load of bullcrap
(http://hellforleathermagazine.com/images/Ducati_Hyperfighter.jpg)
now, you may have seen news in other publications of the forthcoming Ducati Hyperfighter that's allegedly scheduled for a 2008 EICMA debut. The thing is, the machine is a total work of fiction. Created by conceptual artist Oberdan Bezzi for his site Motosketches, the Hyperfighter envisions what a hypothetical future 1098/Hypermotard hybrid might look like. As usual â€" we’re big fans of Oberdan’s work â€" the concept is full of clever ideas that come together to create a really good-looking bike. Presented alongside a fictional timeline for its development and a description of its technology â€" sort of an imaginary brief for the concept â€" we understand why people want to believe in it. The confusion seems to arise from a reader comment Oberdan left on MCN’s website. Their commenting system is confusing, giving equal precedence to content created by both the publication and its commenters, which has led to several other websites reporting on the Hyperfighter as actual news. But honestly people, apply some critical thinking to things.

but we do know from the dealer meeting at Indy that the 1098 will have an 1198 motor and there will be a naked 1098.  Unless you take your dealer out for drinks and get them to violate the 'don't tell anyone details' directive, that's all we got.

i believe ducati had put a press release out saying it wasn't going to do a bigger naked bike. but i don't know if it was the D16 naked or the 1098 naked they were talking about.

I'm happy with my 08 1098 and this actually will be great for the parts and used buyers market.  I imagine prices will drop for all 07/08 models.  Hmmmm 1098 specific track bike anybody?!?!?! [thumbsup]

If this comes to be true the 10 more hp and whatever increase in torque i'm sure is going to be sweet but not some deal maker for me.  Would i ever use that extra 10hp?  Probably not considering i barely use all the power in my bike right now.  Patience is always nice but if you keep waiting every year for the latest and greatest you will never own a bike since a new model with better stuff comes out every single year.  My 1098 is the sex and she told me so, i can cook  [bacon] on her exhaust

I want to believe in the Hyperfighter because the M1100 looks like a pile of shit with Öhlins suspension on.
I want to believe in it because that could be a "real" Monster...
More agile, faster, more lightweight...bring it on.
I dont need no 1198 or whatsoever...A used R1 for the track day will do...and spare parts.
Can´t wait for Milan...
I put down the deposit for my 695 last year that time...exactly one day after I say the 696 disaster

They won't build a D16 naked. The first time we'll see a D16 engine in a production bike (a real one...not the uber expensive D16RR) will be in a SBK. I'm guessing the next generation SBK...in 3-5 years.
