Title: gabba gabba s4r rear axle nut
Post by: scienceiscool on September 21, 2008, 06:07:32 PM
quick question for someone who knows the answer -

i gotta acquire one of those giant sockets to take off my rear wheel.  i searched!  and found the required torque value but not the socket needed.  exactly what size would i need for the axle nut of a sss s4r.  thank you so very much.   [beer]

I would recommend the Speedymoto socket. The nuts are relatively thin compared to the diameter and a regular socket could slip off if the torque is applied at angle other than perpendicular to the axle, easy to do given the high tourque required to break the nut free.
The Speedymoto item (there are others out there), has a spigot that fits into the bore of the axle and holds the socket firmly in position. It is reversable to fit both the wheel and sprocket nuts.

I use regular sockets, but I wish I had bought the Speedmoto unit that Capo is speaking of. It's a good choice here.
