I'm headed to Bar Harbor in just about 4 weeks. Anyone have any ideas of fun things to do up there? Must see places, or good places to go eat??
Thanks!
Depends what you like to do. If you are a nature buff, the sky is the limit as far as things to do on Mt. Desert Island.
On your way out visit the Penobscot Narrows Bride Observatory. $5.00 gets you a view 400' above the ground and grants access to Fort Knox, which is super cool if you're a nerd like me and enjoy forts and old stuff like that.
Check out Cadillac Mountain while you're there. Even better get your ass up early and go watch the sunrise there. It's supposedly the first point the sun hits on the East Coast. Sunsets there are pretty darn cool too. Just bring a jacket in case the fog rolls in. It gets chilly fast when the wind starts to howl.
A 7 day pass is available to get into Acadia for $20 per vehicle; Thunder Hole is great about mid-tide, Bass Harbor Light it neat, and there are a ton of other cool views and places to stop. Not to mention more hiking trails than you could possibly hit in a weeks time.
There is a huge mini golf place on Route 3 (Pirate's Cove) that is a lot of fun.
Geddy's in the downtown has good food, a decent atmosphere, and a neat shop downstairs.
Thanks for the advice! I'm headed up there for just a weekend, so I wanted to have a few ideas.
Cadillac Mountain sounds like a great idea for Sunday morning before breakfast.

We are going to be staying at a bed and breakfast, so breakfasts are covered. [thumbsup]
I'd really like to find someplace romantical that we could go for dinner on Saturday night. [wine]
If you ever find you dont have breakfast covered go to Jeanies (i think it was) downtown. Great food and people, sometimes there is a wait but its worth it. The park loop road is nice because it covers alot if you dont want to spend the whole day in Acadia but deffinately see some of that. Theres also Bar island which you can cross to when the tide is low if your into hiking (not a long or difficult hike). Kind of cool because when the water comes in you cant get to it.
Seriously, hit the Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory on your way out. Can't stress how cool it is.
What's that? My nerd is showing? Oh, thanks. That happens.

Havana is a pretty nice place... delicious mojitos, super-fresh seafood.
In Acadia Park, walk the carriage trails to Jordan Pond - order lots of popovers.
Definitely top-3 most beautiful place in Maine
