I haven't worn the new off my S2R1K so I don't need one. I agree with one of the comments regarding the passenger peg/rider's peg assembly. They have a rendezvous with a hacksaw in their future, that is if you want it as a solo only bike. I also think it looks good with those wheels and SSSA.

TBH, I think the DSSA looks better than the SSA on the new gen Monsters.

Yeah, the rearsets and exhaust cans are bleh, but most people would swap those out anyway.

I don't mind the SSA, actually think most all bikes look better with it (that's not to take away from any bike with DSSA) But they lost me with the 1100.  Ummmm.......an 1100 with only 95 HP @7500 rpms....  That's like 80HP to the rear wheel.....  Correct me if I'm wrong, but my S4R has about 115 HP and revs higher than 7500 before dropping off.  I wanna see that bike exactly like it is and call it a M1100 with a 1098 displacement  [thumbsup]

That's not an equal comparison by any means.

Your taking the M1100 (a 2v air-cooled) vs a S4R (4v water-cooled).

If I recall most places cite about a 10% (not the 15%) loss through the drive chain so 80rwhp would probably be a bit low, more like ~85 rwhp

HP/Torque for the M1100 is cited at 95hp and 75ft-lbs (10.5kgm)

What does an 2005 S4R have cited for hp/torque?

2005 S4R has 86.1 kw - 117 hp @ 8750 rpm and 10.1 kgm @ 7000rpm which is about 73ft-lbs.

Look for the rumored HyperFighter after the Milan show in November  [thumbsup]

It looks like the M-series will all be air-cooled and water-cooled bikes will be named something else

Bryant,

Tommy likes high revs and hits his rev limiter enough on the 1098 to where he's complained about it.  That's where he is coming from.

This new bike (M1100) according to the MCM article makes 95 HP @7500 and 79.5 lbs.-ft @ 6000.  For comparison, the '05 M1000 is listed as 94 HP @8000 and 9.6 kgm (69.4 lbs.-ft) @6000 (same specs as '07 model).

It is curious that the peak HP is reached at a lower rev than the out going Monster.  But who knows what the power curve looks like and if the rev limiter cuts in beyond 7500 revs.  What is sure is that this thing, if gearing is the same and weight is correct (370 lbs. dry vs 397 lbs. dry) will accelerate quicker than previous Monsters including, dare I say it the S4RS which lists its torque specs at 76.7 @7500 and weighs 390 lbs.  Good thing it has 130 peak HP or it would look like it was standing still while this bike blows it's doors off up to 100 MPH?

I have to believe that it is geared higher otherwise it won't run more than 120 mph if the rev limit or peak HP is at 7500, so the S4RS is safe. ;D

Then again, the true specs have yet to be completely listed.

I was just saying that the comparison between the M1100 and the S4R is not equal.

The air-cooled bikes just don't have the top end grunt that the water-cooled ones do.  Apples vs oranges

The power stats for the M1100 are from the Ducati.com site

Aww... I thought we were actually having a somewhat content filled thread.   :-X

I didn't mean to come off as trying to correct you or debate.  I was just stating specs and my thoughts on the the bike.   [thumbsup]

BOT

The M1100 looks to be a hoot.  Power:weight ratio (95hp:~370lbs) is pretty nice.  I still have yet to ride a 696, but it's gotta be nice an flickable.  I hope that translates to the M1100

I wonder if the Hyperfighter is a real possibility.  Naked water-cooled bike would be sweet for those needing the extra power.

No worries mate, I wasn't meaning "Bryant", I was meaning everyone in general please don't take my posts too seriously......

You are right though, it does sound like a hoot if it has that much torque.  But I'm still waiting  for the S4RS/1100

It doesn't look like the Monster name will be on a water-cooled platform.  That platform will probably carry another name and be a separate line

Ducati does have to do something w/ the left over 1098 motors w/ the 1198 looming.

Speaking of new bikes look at Suzuki's possible replacement for the SV

Look familiar to anything?  :o

That's spooky. How's been peeking in who's design shop windows?? No one copies a piece of s#@t failure, only success is copied.
