So, I've seen Mythbusters mentioned on the board more than once...
anyone have any Motorcycle Myths to send in for them to debunk/confirm?
It'd be sweet to have a Mythbusters Motorcycle Special!!!

... and here I was all excited that they had a motorcycle special all scheduled and filmed and about to air. [bang]
there should be laws against getting a guy all excited like that.... something akin to leaving him navy colored spheres. ;)

Wasn't at all intended. ;D
If we get them enough myths then it'll happen!!! [bacon] [bacon] [bacon]
I don't see anyone throwing suggestions out. (aside from the 140mph 620)
The only myths I know is that our bikes all cost like, $100,000 and go 200 MPH. I'm not sure I want those myths shot down.

That's a good one, but they don't need to be Duc myths.
A Corona tanktop offers better protection than an armored jacket.
Lets see if they can get a bike into a tank slapper, then just flat out let go of the handle bars and see if they come out of it.
Well after lurking for a months I figure this is a great thread to make my first post. So I will start off by saying HI!
I've got a few myths for you. The first has to do with helmets. A guy I work with doesn't like to wear a helmet because according to him he would "rather be dead than paralyzed". His logic is that any impact to the head with a helmet on will be transferred to the neck. While I am sure this is true to some extent, I think the protection the helmet offers far out weighs the risk of breaking your neck. I am sure there are plenty of situations where a helmet could protect you from an otherwise fatal crash without breaking your neck. So a few tests with Buster, with and without a helmet at a few different speeds and fall angles would be cool.
My second just adds to the tank slapper myth. I've also heard that hitting the handle bar really hard can stop the slapper.
Loud pipes save lives. Not sure exactly how they would test this but it would be cool to have in there.
What grade of gas does a Ducati run best on.
What oil is best in a Ducati.
Myths Busted!

You should post up about yourself here.

They did do one that was sort of motorcycle related. They tested the myth about a rider getting killed or decapitated (i cant remember specifically) from an exploding retreaded semi-truck tire.

I remember that... see, more like that...
Helmet breaking necks, "causing more injury", or rather die than be mutilated (much refuted, but still propagated) is a good one.
Any others?
Stick into the spokes of a moving moto?
I was on the mythbusters site and some dude was trying to argue that if you sped up.. you could sheer right through a deer.... like a knife... instead of just crashing into it... and that top speed would save your life...
Check out thier website... cause they have some insanely crazy people talking moto myths....
prolly the same people who think the airplane would not take off.... [bang]

That one still bugs me... I always get myself to think I understand it. Then forget what I said to myself.

the wheels are free rolling, so if the engine pulls enough air, it doesn't matter that the ground is moving. Provided a long enough treadmill take-off will happen.
I think the main problem with the myth is that people are trying to prove very different points... people who say you can't take off of a conveyor belt, intend it to mean that you can't shorten a runway by making it a moving runway... something got lost in the translation a long time ago.
The only way an airplane can get airborne is by generating Lift. On your typical airplane that's accomplished by airflow moving over the wing. It doesnt matter if there's a treadmill or not, if there is no airflow over its wings then it will not take off.
So the question becomes, can the airplane accelerate faster than the conveyor belt? If yes, then it'll take off. If no, then it won't. Simple.
Oh good-this crap again.

there's not enough tequila in my house my state this country Mexico for me to read this thread anymore. [bang]
I think they should test the myth that Ducati is making a Hypermotard. [thumbsup]
