Title: Finally pulled the trigger bought a 2009 s2r1100.
Post by: Toxic on September 26, 2008, 05:07:16 AM
Well after being a member here for a long time I finally bought a Ducati.
Last night I dropped off my VFR800 on a trade in for a Ducati.  Which Ducati you ask, i'm not sure.
The sales order was written up on a 696 with the option to change to the new s2r 1100 when the photos are released.  At the time all my dealer could tell me is that the new s2r is using the 1100 motor and is styled like the 696 but with a sss and the stacked pipes of the current model.  Love the style of the 696 but hate the stacked pipes.

Now imagine my pleasent surprise logging on this morning to find the recently released pis of the s2r.
Just an awesome looking machine.  I like the side be side pipes but not the shape of them.  Ah they can be changed.

Congrats! I don't believe they're calling them s2r's but rather just Monster 1100.

Are you getting the S or just the regular model? Any idea when you'll get it?

Right now my dealer is saying January ( he really is not sure ) which is fine because around here the riding season is just about done.
At most we can get another month and a half at best before it snows.

Originally I was leaning towards the 696 as I was just looking for a back up bike to my Benelli TNT.  The Benelli has been reliable except for a 5 week period where it needed a water pump. Hence the need for a second bike.

A girlfriend bought the 696 after I talked her into it so I've had a chance to spend so time on it and it is a great bike for the money.

I'm looking at the standard version.

Congrats looks like your the first to purchase one so far [thumbsup]  But of course i don't believe you without pics [roll]

Guess you would have to go to italy to get pics though right now.   Good luck with it when you do get it can't wait to see it.  What color did you order?  What color options are there?

The only colors they have up right now on the official site is red for the S version and titanium for the regular version.

Im also looking at changing next year to a m1100. Probs going to P/ex both s4/r916 and 748 and be done with 2 bikes. The m1100 has high level side by side as 696 but they wil be the first thing I change. I also would powercoat the footrest hangers satin black. They are the only things I dont like other than the headligt but thats not a big deal.

Im going for the m1100S with the ohlins if I do as this will be an only bike for me now and also I ride 2 up most times which again is why I want 1100 and not 696.

Glad its got the single sider too.

I can't finf it on Ducati.com.

Specifically weight of the m1100 compared to the 696.

Certainly after the Cologne show Oct 8th we will have full details

The preview page lists the weight at 168 and 169 kg for the 1100s and 1100. The tech specs on the 696 lists the weight at 161 kg. Torque and HP numbers are here in the write up as well.
