I brought this up on the Board Suggestion section, but was wondering if other people would like to see another board dedicated to ride reports
Since the formation of the DMF there have been quite a few trips that folks have taken and have been good enough to share their stories from the road.
I personally love reading the stories and the browsing their pictures. I hate having to hunt and peck for them if I want to reread them.
What does everybody think?
possibly modeled after this --> ADV Rider (http://www.advrider.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=2) website. I admit to reading through the roadtrips / adventures and looking at the great photography that is taken along the way.
Sounds like a good idea to me ....Dolph
I like it. Pictures would be a must.
[pretty much the same as my prior post on the subject]
My two cents: I like and have always liked having ride reports with pics in General. They have general motorcycle interest, and do a good job of keeping us all warm and IZ_ about riding. Otherwise, many of the General threads are either threads of people being snarky to each other or threads that should be moved into a more specific section. Those ride reports set a good tone that--in my mind--is important to have in the main (i.e. General) forum.
I'm also wary about too many boards. It segregates the forum. Personally, I already think there are already too many visibile boards on the main page. It gets distracting. I vote KISS.
I agree, generally, with not having too many boards, however, I believe an area specific to Rides (planning/reports/routes/etc) would be helpful.
The general forum gets clogged and it can be a lot to wade through to get to something of interest and is easy for ride posts to get lost in the mix. One of the benefits of the ride forum being seperate at ADV is that it's easy to refer back to it as I plan rides in similar areas without wading through unrelated posts or search results, etc.
what about a ride report section in the local clubs area?
i confess that while i like to read ride reports from folks, i am less interested if their ride is not within my area...
I agree with Herm on the local section ride section.
This is simply based on the youth of the board.
I think it starts locally, and if we get quite a lot of posts in those areas, maybe migrate them into a "Ride Report Section" later?
I like the idea of a ride reports section - I made a similar suggestion on the report here where a guy went touring on his Sport Classic.
I think it would ideally follow the Aventure Rider format where the emphasis is on the pictures telling the story, linked together with a bit of commentary.
Done that way, the reports of rides in distant parts can be as interesting as those of trips closer to home.
As far as the segmentation issue goes, would it be possible to set up the board so that ride-report threads appeared in the general forum as well?
That way we'd all be alerted to new ride reports, but then people could go to the specific ride reports section to work thru the archve if they wanted to.
(I'm assuming we won't get as many as ADVrider does.)
I actually think the most interesting ride reports are the ones that do not involve local areas ;D
I've read some pretty good ride reports, and in turn that inspired me to travel, crafting what would ultimately become some of the most EPIC riding I've ever done.
And I've got it all summarized into a nice lil' ride report already, with pics, ... and no where to put it :p
