Title: I dropped my 696!
Post by: nkryptit on September 28, 2008, 07:55:31 AM
Well...I guess these things happen....I dropped my 696 this morning about an hour ago....Low speed low side...I was going around the Round-about here on WMU's campus, hit some gravel/sand and the back tire just washed out...I'm fine, I got a little abrasion on my left love handle because my jacket slid up as I was sliding a bit.  The bike is looking really good actually....My bar end mirror folded and seems fine.  The biggest damage looks like the tank panels, the foot peg and shifter....The peg snapped off leaving me just enough peg to get home, and shifter bent in, and the handle bars hit the tank hard enough to crack it where the air intake is....She was still running when I picked her up, and still rides straight....

It's funny, I ride this round-about like 2-3 times a day, every day, and I wasn't going any faster than  usual, just hit some shit in the road...Oh well...that's the way she goes....Live and learn...

So, I'm looking for new foot pegs, and a few shifter....What will fit, anyone know?

These things happen. At least you're ok and the bike's not seriously damaged. Use it as an excuse to start modding. Aftermarket bars, maybe a custom painted replacement tank plastic.

1) Glad you're okay.

2) while you're looking for new parts, find yourself a better jacket to. That should not happen.

+1 to someguy, you also might want to try a size smaller. or a brand that sizes a bit smaller.

Sorry to hear about your incident but REALLY glad you are okay.  Just try to relax and take it easy today.

Someguy's right: look into getting a new jacket.

Have fun modding...er...I mean fixing your bike.  ;)

That sucks, at least your ok.

Does your jacket have the optional belt loop attachments for when you are were wearing jeans. and not zip together riding pants.

I'm tall so my jacket fits very short. When I'm wearing jeans, I spend the extra time to attach the belt loop things or else I'm sure I'll get similar scuff marks on my love handles as well if I go down.

Thanks everyone!  I'm not feeling too bad...I was already planning on ordering the CF Tank Panels (~ $500), so really the only things to replace are my peg and maybe shifter if I can't bend it back...

+1 to all the jacket comments...I've always felt it was a bit large for me, I lost like 30lbs after I got it and haven't ordered a new one yet...First thing next season!  Does anyone know how specific the pegs for monsters are?   I looked around at Motowheels website today and saw a few, but not sure what will fit...I'll call them tomorrow... Maybe they can test fit some for me??? ;)

Sorry to hear this happened man!   .. do you think you could have avoided sliding out by not leaning too much? was it just a little bit of sand/gravel or it was a lot and you just didn't pay enough attention? this could happen to me one day.. and I'm trying to figure out what went wrong in your case and if it could have been avoided by paying more attention..

I thought those cuts/vents on the 696 would give the bars more clearance in a fall to prevent a tank dent...

On the bright side, you have an excuse to get aftermarket stuff on it.  [thumbsup]

Well...In short...Yes, I could have avoided this.  I suppose it's subjective whether I was leaning too much.  It's not like I had my knee on the ground, but in a round about, you tend to have to commit to some sort of lean... Also, when entering it, you can't really see the exit all the way around the other side.

check your bars and your steering stops to make sure nothing is bent. since your bars jammed into your tank, i would suspect something isn't straight.

Glad you are okay. Can't wait to see your mods and the CF tanks! Get the bike checked out by the dealer.

Sorry to hear of your fall.  Glad you are O.K.  I just dropped my M696 last Friday and am now looking for parts.  Check out Ducati Omaha for a parts catalogue.  You can also enter in the part # online to get an instant quote.  I'm now looking for replacement parts.  Do you have a OEM left hand mirror that you want to sell cheap?

Dont wait Get one now, 50$, it has a belt loop and full armor i love mine.  ANd you can fit a bigger windbreaker over it if it gets cold. They are really good on sizing if you call them

No Sliders...The only damage to the exhaust is a little quarter sized scuff on the passenger heat shield...

You're right...They want $380 per side of the tank...The CF is actually cheaper at around $500 for the pair.

Its ok, I dropped my CRF today and broke my front brake lever.... I'll have to ride to work using my rear brake, although I put a vice grip on the broken piece to make a mock lever :)
