Title: Triumph STREET TRIPLE R
Post by: 707soldier on September 29, 2008, 01:33:40 PM
Triumph launched the new Street Triple R today at a press launch on the Isle of Man.

This new model is based on the successful Street Triple, is powered by the world renowned Daytona 675 and takes its styling queues from the original hooligan bike, the Speed Triple.
The Street Triple R has been designed to rival traditional supersport machines with its superb handling and exceptional stopping power, while offering the comfort and attitude of a streetfighter.
The Street Triple R comes fully equipped with race track technology and can be finely tuned for all road and track conditions.
At its heart is the highly-acclaimed fuel-injected 675cc three-cylinder engine, producing 107 bhp at 11,700rpm.
The bike gleans a fully adjustable sports suspension and powerful four-piston radial brakes from the award-winning Daytona 675.
The fully-adjustable 41mm upside down forks and an adjustable rear monoshock unit deliver confident handling,
while the radially-mounted four piston calipers grabbing twin 308mm brake discs make for quick stopping.

Key features at a glance:
Fully adjustable suspension front and rear
Powerful four-piston Nissin radial calipers and radial master cylinder front brakes
Smooth and torquey 107 bhp 675cc three cylinder engine
Magura tapered aluminum handlebars for genuine streetfighter look
Full range of Triumph accessories allows riders to tailor bike to individual tastes
Two-tone black and graphite seat
Exclusive new color schemes: Matte Graphite with orange decals or Matte Blazing Orange with grey decals
This new bully, the Street Triple R, will be available in dealerships in November

For the most part I dig it, even though it (i'm not complaining) resembles the majority of 600ish cc nakeds out there.  I don't think I can get over the ass end though.  It's almost as though they had the bike designed all the way up to production state, then realized that they'd forgotten to add the exhaust.  I think someone here said "it's like a huge zit on the forehead of a supermodel".  I can't take my eyes off it (and not for a good reason).

LOL... nah... he keeps coming back to the "DUCATI MONSTER" forum.... I bet that he at least called the dealer to see when the New 1100 Monster will be available.. Isn't that right Soldier..?? (by the way.. we know you are a good sport.. so don't get mad that we pick on your indecisiveness.... although... I was thinking......wouldn't the army teach you how to better discriminate to choose the best option hopefully the first time? I mean.. if you are in combat and you have to decide who is the worse threat to kill.. you can't wonder that much can you? I bet the army teaches you this to survive..wouldn't that ability to make decisions translate into other life's situations.. i.e .. choosing the right bike without going through 3 in a 2 month period?  oh... Nice weapon collection you have... you must be a little crazy...  [beer]

I believe the epedemic of big ugly cans on new bikes are a result of emmissions requirements, not styling.  It's an engineering problem - you have to have big cans in order to cram in enough catatlytic material.  Result?  Big ugly cans (or udders).

As I said above, I think that's the underlying reason . . . I trust the board will straighten me out if wrong.

Good luck getting your hands on one.  Triumph is notorious for giving a date for delivery only to push it back a month or two only to have it happen again.  I was very interested in the ST3.  So much so that I had put money down on one.  But, when the date of delivery was pushed back from Aug. to Sept (at the latest) to "well, it looks like it is going to be the middle of Oct. now", I couldn't wait any longer.  I went with the 696 and am very pleased with the bike.

There are even fewer of these coming into the country. Fortunately, the standard Street Triple will still be available and Triumph have allegedly expanded production capabilities in Thailand (where they've been making bikes since '02).

THAILAND...   [laugh]  there's British heritage for you. I'll stick to my Italian made bike. unless you tell me they're made in Ethiopia (check your history before you say something about my choice of countries)

Your (and my) Italian bike is assembled at Bologna, I have nfi where the parts come from & don't really care as long as they work. Same goes for Triumph.

Did you buy your S2R used? You can get an S3 for the price of a S2R1000. But you will pay more if it is black.

Almost forgot, thumbs down on the StreetTriple.  8)

Actually, the motor is dumbed down, by about 20hp. The suspension is from the '08 Daytona with different spring rates. The '09 Daytona has high & low speed compression damping that the '08 doesn't. The main difference (allegedly) between the '08 Daytona motor and the Street Triple (the R & standard have the same motor) is the ECU tune & the cam shaft. The '09 Daytona motor is an upgrade to the '08 and won't be in either Street Triple.

The low mount, single side GP exhaust on the Speed Triple is an Arrow exhaust. There's a similar exhaust for the Street Triple from arrow but the Zard Basso looks better IMO.

Whatever you think looks wise, the Speed Triple is more similar, performance wise, to the S4R than the S2R1k.
