Where my exhaust bolts up to the horizontal head - There seems to be some dirt or mud which has discoloured slightly. I've tried petrol and elbow grease but it seems to be baked on. Does anyone know of any tricks to remove to restore this back to it's normal colour without being too abrasive?
I'm really against the oven cleaner as this is on the head which is painted, unless someone can swear that it does not affect the paint.
Yes, I do have a 695, and No, it's not the brown gunk issue.
I can get answers from the other forums but they mention products which are not easily available in OZ.

Acetone works but be gentle.
The paint on the motors is a high temp powder coat.
How many Ks on your bike?

You can also try some mag wheel cleaner, applied with a brush to the areas that you want cleaned!! ;D
Try it on a small out of the way piece first to make sure its not going to strip the crap out of everything. ;)
BBQ Cleaner. ;)
I use a product called Power Clean by Motorex. It is awesome for removing the bits that detergent doesn't. Literally dissolves tar, bugs, etc and will not harm your paint. Not tried it on the headers though. I would give it a go, it seems to remove everything else. I got it from MAW, should be able to get it from most bike shops (don't go to MAW for another week of so though, just ask Craigo)
