Some guy double parked then opened his door. I found myself laying on my back on Union Ave this morning. I'm glad I wasn't moving fast. My ankle hurts, bent shift lever and I'll need a new mirror . Sweeeeeeeet
:o
Gald to hear you're alright Pat. Damn cagers!
For future reference do what I used to do back when I was a bike messenger...
if you see a door about to creep open and there's no way to possibly avoid it, aim for the person getting out. Teaches them every time.
Glad you're ok.
daaam pat! hope your okay, sounds like it could have been much worse. stupid cars. what was the drivers reaction? i hope he was responsible about it.
Ouch man!! To a speedy recovery hope you didn't hurt your ankle too bad!
That sucks man hope you feel better. Did he offer to help for damages? insurance involved?
Is he now going to incur the wrath of The Usual Suspects? ;D
I Keed, I Keed!!
Hope your ankle feels better soon. Curious as to the drivers reaction after being the obvious cause. Did he at least help stand your bike up?
He told me I need to "be careful on that thing." I told him he needs to look when he opens his door. He was clearly in the wrong and was cool about it. I was so annoyed that I just left. No cops no insurance. I didn't realize the minimal damage until I got home - not really a big deal, just frustrating.
and yes. he did help me pick my bike up.

This does not sound like he was being cool about the whole thing, especially since it was completely his fault. Maybe I'm just interpreting it wrong?
Glad you're OK! Damn people...
BTW - any interest in the bike yet?
Man that blows. i've have a door open on me on my bicycle more than 10 times, an each time i've flown over the door, got up and try to make the beast with two backs that driver up. All they ever do is drive away. If i was on my bike, id call the cops. Who knows maybe your ankle is worst than you really think.
If he so much as hints anything other than sorry, my fault, lets trade information. I'd call the cops.
Glad you're mostly ok dude.
:(
Sucks.
Glad you are ok for the most part.
glad to here you're not too banged up.
Sorry to hear. Too late now, but always get a police report or at least exchange info in case you find out you have a significat injury later. If someone opens a door into traffic, even a passenger, AFIAK, the fault is thiers.

Probably different in the States, but In Belgium insurance mostly rules "if you avoid the car and fall down it's your own fault, while if you can't avoid it and hit the car, it's their fault." My uncle had this kind of accident once with his car, managed to avoid the other car, but ended up hitting a big concrete flowerpot. Insurance said: "your own fault". make the beast with two backsed up world if you ask me.

Good point, pretty much the same in NY if there is no vehicle contact unless the other party admits fault or you have some good witnesses.
glad you're alright bud. [thumbsup]
