Title: Squeeky Sidi Boots and Leather Cleaning
Post by: Exar Kun on October 02, 2008, 09:45:24 AM
This one is a two parter for you guys.

I bought a pair of Sidi Vertigo boots and a 2 piece A* leather suit a few months back. So far I really like them both, no complaints about the suit but the boots squeek like crazy when I'm walking in them. Do you guys have any tips for cutting down on this? It seems to be coming from the heal area. I was thinking of just spraying a little lithum grease or chain lube up in there but I was worried about staining the boots.

My second question is how do I go about cleaning my leathers? They arn't smelly yet but I would like to give them a cleaning before I put them away for the winter, any ideas?

Squeaky boots:

I've been using silicone spray on my old A*s SMX3s, but my Sidi motocross boots I've just left squeaky. They're WAAAY louder than the A*s ever were, but I don't walk around in public (quiet places) with them on anyway.

Just spray a bit where the plastics rub against each other, and wipe any excess off to prevent dirt from collecting. You should test a small inconspicuous area of the boots to check if the spray you have will be safe for the plastic.

People at the office used to make fun of the squeak, and they were disappointed when the squeaking stopped.  [laugh]

I usually let my leathers air dry really well, and just hang them in a well-ventilated area. But Colorado is pretty dry, and as such we don't have many humidity problems. Anyone know if Febreeze would be fine for the liners in leathers? I would *think* it would be okay, but maybe someone else has experience.

If you're looking to get the leathers profesionally cleaned.. the guy above, Barnacle Bill, is great.  He did my Vanson suit repair/cleaning.

Barnacle Bill... he does great work. [thumbsup]

I don't know how real riding boots are but my Redwing steel toe boots squeak after I got in an accident. Someone at the Redwing shop said it's because the sole is broken.

picked up some... lexol? leather cleaner and conditioner...

I'm pretty sure febreeze is safe for the liner, I've used it on my goalie gear for years and it's never done any harm  [thumbsup]

Someone suggested Plexar to me for squeaky Sidis -- it works well, but not for more than a couple of weeks. On the other hand, it's useful stuff for cleaning your visor & windscreen, so you might as well have some around anyway.

I'm going to try the lithium grease and if that doesn't work the plexar. Thanks for the tips, i was wondering about that too.
