Title: WOW, Bike is back better than ever.
Post by: mookieo2 on October 02, 2008, 06:33:00 PM
Got my 12k service done. Gotta give a big thanks to the boys at Chronic. I talked to Dave and told him that the bike was a little slow, I have a pwr commander and Arrow Ti`s on a 750. He recommended I get a bigger sprocket in the back since I was replacing the worn one, so I took his advice. They also found out it was running lean and recommended putting it on the Dyno, re adjusting the map, and cut the airbox open. I only rode it home about 20 min but it felt like a whole new bike. Not just because of the sprocket, but the new map worked wonders. I ended up w/ a few more HP, but to me the biggest and best improvement was how smooth it is now. When I would roll off the throttle, there used to be a spot where I would try and not go past because the bike would bog down a bit or make it harder to accelerate from. This is virtually gone now or is a lot lower than it used to be. The throttle is soo smooth and the bike rides better than the day I got it. Not to mention the open airbox sounding like it is going to suck me in. They also picked up a used tank for me, got it painted, and typical dent fixed while I was away on vacation. My original one was leaking pretty bad from the hinge.

Thanks guys I can`t get over how smooth she is now. I can`t wait to take her out tomorrow and Sunday. ;D

that's awesome...   BTW, how much was the service? I'm due - if my bike doesn't sell.

Glad they sorted it out for you Mookie. Same here, I'm due for the 6k service and is why the Monster has been sitting for the past month. In addition to the service, I need new tires  :(.

After seeing the pics, this post reads like a set-up to a bad (as in something bad is gonna happen) movie. Perhaps the bigger sprocket wasn't the way to go? Or do you think with the bike running differently than what you were used to that caused the wreck Mooks?

Ladies and gentlemen, there seems to be an extreme risk in having your routine service performed. Mookie got his bike back after its 12k, and crashed it shortly thereafter. My crash was soon after my 18k service. This is a disturbing trend. My advice to you all is "ride it 'til it dies." Don't get your bike tuned up, don't get new tires, don't change the oil, and whatever you do, DON'T do any "performance modification," as this is likely to have fatal consequences.

To make your safety even more likely, I recommend that you buy a bike that hasn't been ridden in 20 years, preferably one that doesn't run at all.

Good luck out there (in the garage).

Maybe it caused a little more confidence and excitement being that it was looking and running beautiful. POOR BABY.
