I should have asked first but ended up ordering them last week on a whim.
I rode alot last winter but anything below 40 degrees was just too damn cold. I have a pretty good winter setup but freezing hands really made riding unbearable at times. I have a set of Rev-it winter gloves with good protection but the cold slowly creeps in and takes hold. I didn't want electric gloves as most seem to not offer decent protection and some have poorly designed heating elements that fail when you need them most.
I purchased a set of Hot Grips bar grips and are a bit labor intensive to install between replacing the stock grips and wiring it properly with relay and rain-tight switch. Will these be the magic cold weather riding solution for cold hands or should I just return them and deal with electric gloves?
I just wanted to get everything sorted before pulling over and doing the hands in armpits again.
I've had both sets up - heated gloves and heated grips. The thing with the heated grips is, mine seemed like they were either on or off. When they seemed like they were on, it felt like I was holding a hot pan in my hands - almost unbearable. Maybe if I installed it with a a "troller" that allowed me to infinitely adjust the heat it would've been better.
After the grips I started using WarmnSafe gloves. They're very thin like a summer gauntlet but are wired for heat. They offer marginally better protection than Gerbings and look better too. As far as the heat... they're amazing and I'd never go back!! www.warmnsafe.com
i had he glued on strips that went undeneath your rubber grips. Like goldenchild said, they are either on or off. More accurately, it was either on luke warm or nuclear. even with thick winter gloves it would feel like having your hands in a really hot bath (id have to say it was atleast 160 degrees).
Mine were wired directly to my battery. I found it strange, but it would get even hotter when i was on the highway. Maybe that extra power from revvinig heated it more. i dunno.
I was thinking of going this route this winter.

just wear it underneath your normal gloves (if they arent snug fit)
the big problme with heated grips is the back of your hand still gets freezing cold.

It came with this shitty resistor and awesome 60s style switch straight out of the Apollo lunar module for low heat but am going to see if I can get that variable controller instead. The warm and safe gloves look great. I think I've spent enough money on crappy gear to probably buy another used sport bike trying to find what works and what doesn't. Thank God for Ebay.

tried that, but it doenst work at anyhting below 40degrees.
i had windproof pants that worked great, but they were not breathable so i had precipitation building up in minutes. it was like a freaking sauna.

With some info from GC i'm going with the full warmnsafe getup, gloves, liner and dual heat troller. I will post up about it when its all working [thumbsup]
