I originally posted this on the political thread, bit later realized there might be a few people that would not see it. Simply moto talk, and I would love to hear some opinions........

Introducing the 2009 YZF-R1, the first ever production motorcycle with a crossplane crankshaft. Crossplane technology, first pioneered in MotoGP racing with the M1, puts each connecting rod 90° from the next, with an uneven firing interval of 270°- 180°- 90°- 180°. This all but eliminates undesirable inertial crankshaft torque, which allows the engine’s compression torque to build smoothly and provide a very linear power delivery out of the corners. It’s a feeling that’s simply unmatched, like having two engines in one: the low-rpm torquey feel of a twin with the raw, high-rpm power of an inline 4.
The R1 features Yamaha D-MODE (or drive mode) with rider-selectable throttle control maps to program YCC-T performance characteristics for riding conditions. The standard map is designed for optimum overall performance. The “A†mode lets the rider enjoy sportier engine response in the low- to mid-speed range, and the “B†mode offers response that is somewhat less sharp response for riding situations that require especially sensitive throttle operation.
The rear frame is now lightweight CF die-cast magnesium, contributing the optimum mass centralization. Suspension includes new SOQI front forks which use one of the tricks developed for our winning MotoGP bikes: independent damping. The left fork handles compression damping and the right side handles the rebound damping. And the rear shock adopts new bottom linkage for optimum suspension characteristics.
Completely new, the new model has a more serious, less busy look. The side fairing is smoother for a sleeker appearance. And, instead of the usual four bulb headlight design, the ’09 model now has only two projector-type bulbs mounted closer to the nose of the bike. This positions ram air ducts closer in for a more compact, smooth look. In addition, the rounded lenses are new and unique to the supersport industry.
Type 998cc, liquid-cooled 4-stroke DOHC 16 valves (titanium valves)
Bore x Stroke 78.0mm X 52.2mm
Compression Ratio 12.7:1
Carburetion Fuel Injection with YCC-T and YCC-I
Ignition TCI: Transistor Controlled Ignition
Transmission 6-speed w/multi-plate slipper clutch
Suspension/Front 43mm inverted fork; fully adjustable, 4.7-in travel
Suspension/Rear Single shock w/piggyback reservoir; 2-way adjustable, 4.7-in travel
Brakes/Front Dual 310mm disc; radial-mount forged 6-piston calipers
Brakes/Rear 220mm disc; single-piston caliper

Dude, you rock! [laugh] [thumbsup]
Seriously, that is an awesome bike.
Ah, you got my bs on the political, etc thread. Really awesome bike. Just lovin' the time we live in. It's like we have died and gone to heaven bike-wise... too bad our roads are wimpy and cops like to pull us over. If heaven is like that then I'm not going! [evil] [laugh]
Does it have traction control? THAT would be too cool on an affordable bike...

I have read in other articles that it was gonna have it, but I never saw it on their specs/features page.........
I'm agreeing with you on the business of the Japs body work and paint scheme, that's what really drew me in on the 1098 was its classy beauty.
I have my 2, maybe 3 twins, I'm really looking at one of these as a next bike.......dunno yet. I got plenty-o-time to figure it out though. January sales release for 2009.
Really something to look into. This may be a Ducati board but screw it, I'm all things when it comes to 2 wheels. Bimotas, Ducatis. Buells, all Jap bikes, Beemers... who cares, it's all good! [thumbsup] [moto]

No s#@t! That's why I love this board and this group of of yahoos and hooligans. We have diversity and then some and we can put up threads for the random BS that we want. If you you don't want to see it, then don't. How easy is that? Duh? I was opposed to this earlier and ranted against it but I was wrong. Do what you want. Start whatever thread you want. Who cares on our local board. It's like TV, if you don't like it then go to another channel... or in this case thread. Ok, I'm done with my limp opinion. Carry on.
Politcally speaking, I'm hoping the dollar gains substantially against the EU next year in order for the trade imbalance to be righted back to fair-dinkum days here in the states. I'd like to see my dollar buy more Euro bike thus increasing the coeficient of two-wheeled ITALLIAN vehicles in MY garage. I'm all for cutting our spending abroad that is creating negative develpement in our GNP. I mean forthe love of money why do we have to borrow from China of all countries now? Didn't we put those people on the world economic scene 30 years ago? And when are we going to get our "investment" capital back from the M. E.?? I'm also in favor of cancelling this years election and starting over.
There I've said my political rant and now I stand without cover in front of the group.

Kawasaki used slipper clutched on their ZX7R series bikes since 1991, i dont understand why Ducati doesnt sell the last generation superbikes with Slippers neither, And they are pricey to buy them :-X ($1500-$2000)
my GSXR has a factory slipper clutch and i love it... makes hard downshifting a Fun thing [thumbsup]
This can't be good; clicked on this link again just to see the new yellow R1...

Wouldn't you know it? I have a 1990 ZX7... missed the slippers by one year. >:( I didn't know, or rather don't remember, Kawasaki doing that on the ZX7s. Since Ron has a '91 ZX7 (I think... maybe '92) and has recent experience with resurrecting older superbikes I think he should make me a generous offer for my 1990 model. [thumbsup] I think it would look really cool in his garage next to his older sleds. [moto]

Yeah, mine's a 91.
I just happened to search craigslist for the first time ever a week ago. Some guy had a 93 that he had removed the engine, and was selling the rest, which is pretty much what I need to resurrect mine. I called him up, but he had already sold it. So freakin close!!! I would love to get that bike going again, the engine is pretty nice, with the Muzzy race cams and valve spring kit. Maybe not the best setup for the street, but it would still be fun.
I still want to see yours fastwin!
