So I was goning about 50mph on Rt 22 West in North Plainfield in the left lane (2 Lane Highway) when a minivan cuts me off. From what I can remember I had pretty much two choices, either get hit and probably go over the median to the other side or put the bike down and go sliding. It happened so fast I am glad my brain picked the second option. There were no cars behind me thank god. I don't really know how I did it but once I went down I stayed on the bike somehow. I knew I slid for at least 20 feet before I came to a stop.
The whole time I was sliding, I did not even touch the ground except for when the bike was almost stopped and I put a glove down so that got ripped a bit. My jacket, pants not even boots were messed up. How that happened I dont know, Just got lucky I guess. The only momento I have is a black and blue left thigh and calf.
Damage. For going 50 the damage is minimal, Thank you Speedy Moto frame sliders. Right back blinker gone, break levers a little shaved cause of the pavement. Right mirror cracked, right bar end, and the biggest thing that got beat up, was the clutch. At first I thought it was just the clutch cover so I called my wife and she came over with the hex keys. I thought I would just take it off and go on my merry way. But when I was taking it off, all the springs fell out. I am not sure how bad the damege is but it looks like the bolts holding the springs were just cut in half cause the ends with the springs came out and when I took the pressure plate off you can see the rest of the bolts still in there. So I called my cousin and he came with his pick-up to help me take it home. I have pics and will try to put them up after work. Since I am no mechanic, I dont know if I need a whole new clutchset with everything or just just the pressure plate with the middle part.
On the bright side all the pieces that were messed up, I wanted to change anyway and there is completely no body damage to the bike. Since I am in no mood to work today I will just research the internet with the parts I want to get.
wow man.. glad you're ok!
That is intense and extremely lucky glad you are alright! I'm no mechanic either but it seems the clutch is fine and you just need a new cover and some springs.
glad to read that you are ok!! That's most important.
Did the driver even notice their aftermath?
cagers just never pay attention to riders
He either didn't notice or didn't care cause he sure as hell didn't stop.

that sucks
Sorry to hear. Most important is that you are pretty much OK.
You would think someone would stop to assist, particulaly the shithead in the van.
That's amazing that you ended up with such minimal damage to yourself and bike. :o Glad to hear you're not injured.
Sorry to hear about your spill, route 22 is on my list of least favorite roads to ride. I hope you can get back on two wheels soon.

+1. Glad all is well and you're not dead. What do you suppose happened and how do you think it could've been avoided? What's up with people in mini vans lately?!
I would be angry if I were driving a minivan too!
