just a caution to those who aren't familiar, there's a lot of construction going on and metal plates stacked on the West Side Highway downtown near the world financial center. my tire got caught on the edge of one, which was a good few inches higher than the ground next to it and the bike slid. i was talking to a construction worker who saw it happen and he said he's seen 2 other similar incidents within the past week. just a word of caution!
now to start looking for rearsets and a handle bar...
Sorry to hear. Hopefully you are OK. You may be able to collect from the city. The Comptroller has a form to fill out. We collected for two wheels and tires on my wife's car (steel plates on the Willis Ave) and I know to people who collected for damage to their motorcycles. Fill out the form and wait. The worst that will happen is you do not collect.

Glad you ok. If you go the route Howie advised please let us know how that turns out. I have always been curious if you can collect from the city if you damage your vehicle due to construction.
My understanding of the law is if the city notified of the hazard and no action was taken after a certain amount of time, the City is liable. It took about 6 monthes to collect for the wheels and tires, but we did. One of the motorcycles was an almost new Speed Triple that was swallowed by a pothole.
So if it's a hazard that the city wasn't notified about and it damages your vehicle they aren't liable at all and you can't collect?
So far as I know, but I am not a lawyer.
