I have summer mesh jackets that are fine. But when I'm wearing my leather jacket it's like I've got a parachute attached to my torso. I don't have a windscreen on my monster so that may be some of it. I take it that everyone else experiences the same?
zip it up or get the right size, it shouldnt be doing that.

Not even remotely. Your gear is way too loose if your jacket is ballooning up or if it is causing drag.
P.S. We're talking motorcycle leather jackets here, right? Not fashion leather?
agreed. something is wrong....is it snug everywhere? what about the neck? perhaps the neck is too big and air is going straight down.
If it caused drag the racers wouldn't wear it!
Riding apparel should be loose enough so you can move comfortably, but snug enough to stay put in the event of your being introduced to the road surface.
+1 to the other posts, your jacket is way too big.
No, its an 80's Ducati jacket. I'm a 42 chest and it's the right size. Maybe I'm just not used to it yet. HA
It may be the right numbered size, but any flapping or parachuting means it's not the right fit.
A good leather jacket will make the ride sooooo much calmer in terms of being buffeted.
To me a good Leather Motorcycle Jacket should feel like a second skin but not a so tight that you can't move freely.
I've never to my memory had the feeling you describe .
My only problem is when I approach 100 MPH, my Helmet pushes against my nose.
Maybe that says more about my nose than the breath defuser in my Helmet that starts pressing against my nose as I hit 100 and beyond.
I can't tuck enough to get my face out of the wind being 6'5" and my head is out over the mini windscreen on my S4Rs or 1098 R. Dolph
what you are probably feeling is the fact that unlike your mesh jackets the wind won't go through the leather as much.
so what you are feeling is the wind pushign against all the leather and such and your body more. i'm going to guess that with the mesh jacket bc the wind goes through it and breaks up a little that its not quite the "push" feeling you are getting with leather, an dthat is the real difference.
if its sized right then its this "push" of the leather from the wind that makes it feel more solid in large sections you are feeling, and that would be expected.
I'm not familiar w/ the jacket mentioned. Is it a true riding jacket or just a Ducati branded general use leather jacket? That could explain the problem. Any safety jacket should not balloon as everyone has stated. As also stated it could just be wind pressure that you didn't feel before because it was going through your mesh jacket but it's not actual ballooning. You also shouldn't be feeling any flapping of fabric in the jacket because that is a dead give away of poor sizing.
I have a similar problem... but I know it has to do with jacket fitment.
I have a perf'd Ducati 80's jacket in EU56. Fits as close to perfect as possible, except the sleeves are a tad short. (NOTE: the torso fit is perfect INCLUDING my Dainese Wave back protector... it's a tad loose without the back protector) It does not feel like a parachute when riding, it's pretty much perfect.
I recently bought an A* Six-3 leather jacket for fall riding, non-perf'd. It's also a 56, but it's a bit big in the torso and arms, and I felt it as soon as I got up to freeway speed the first time. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford a Dainese all-season or non-perf'd jacket, so I'm stuck with the A*. But for $200 (as opposed to the $450+ I'd have to spend on Dainese), I can't complain too much.
So anyway, my opinion is that the OP's jacket does not fit correctly. If it feels like a parachute, it's too big. Sorry mang. :-\

- This is it. I think you nailed it. It's the pressure. There is no ballooning.
I've got the same dainese 80's jacket, non perfed, legit riding jacket. I also notice a difference when I wear my mesh jacket. Its like sbrguy described, not drag, just the leather being push up against you.

Thank you. Yes.
Is this the first time you've worn a leather jacket?
I had the same feeling when i first started riding. it goes away real quick after you get use to it.
or you can just tuck in an get those elbows in.
I have the same jacket. I wear a sz 44 suit jacket but the ducati is a 58. that said, it fits fine, but I do notice that sometimes the neck feels tight (high speeds, tucking my head) and other times it's an air funnel (sitting upright, slow speeds). other than that, I don't get the drag, but I get cozy with the tank and pull my elbows in!

If your jacket sleeves seem short, get a good ( Held, Alpinestars , Spidi, etc. ) long gauntlet Racing Gloves which will fit over your jacket sleeves .
That way you won't feel like you have short jacket sleeves plus you'll have good hand protection. Dolph

I know. I've had a pair of Dainese Hellracer's from the get-go. ;) The jacket sleeves are still short on the A*, as they just barely make it under the gauntlet, and I have to be careful to pull the sleeve down and gauntlet up when I'm putting them on. I'm covered... but I hope I never have to test the crashworthiness of said coverage. So even with the gauntlets, I still feel like I have short jacket sleeves. Side-effect of being a tall wanker. C'est la Vie.
The Dainese/Ducati 80's jacket is better than the A* in arm length, and is more secure under the gauntlets.
