Title: Should I be concerned
Post by: Kevin848 on October 12, 2008, 06:09:36 AM
The other day I was doing a U-Turn and came to the edge of the paved road, hit some gravel and the front end slid down the edge of the pavement which resulted in a gouge in my front tire.

I have to use these tires for track day and I'm not so sure this front tire will be up to the task?

Hmmmm, hard to say from the photo, but it doesn't look toooooo bad to me...
Besides, there are a lot more left turns at MSR than right turns ;D

Let's ask RichD...?!?!?

Wait.  RichD feels comfortable doing it, so you feel comfortable also?  hmmm.....  you know, we poured some alcohol into RichD, and I heard some stories about things he felt comfortable doing that I'm not entirely sure you would feel comfortable doing ;)

But!  who knows, I may be wrong about that  [thumbsup]  Just thought I'd point out that when I first met RichD he had welded a stripped down wired up pocket bike to the side of his motorcyle, and driven 450 miles with his dog stuffed in it and a case of beer strapped to his back seat...   Now that to me says that homeboy's testicles are made out of an entirely different ( and probably metallic, maybe bronze or brass ) material than my own...  and there is undoubtedly a size difference there that is not in my favor...

but hey, actually, at least from the photo, it looks good to me and my tiny ones also  [thumbsup] [moto]

Mine? ...or the dogs? (little dude is  packin'...)

Absolutely, hands down, unsafe.

Matter of fact, I think the entire front end is probably suspect at this point. Who knows? You may have tweaked a fork.

I recommend you remove the forks/wheels/brakes/triples/clipons/master cylinders and send them to me for testing.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Appreciate the offer to safety test!  [thumbsup]

Missed this thread yesterday. It doesn't look that bad in the photo. If the tread is not badly cut (or cut at all) and no cords of any kind are showing I wouldn't worry about it. Keep an eye out on it for sure. Replace it? No. Oh, and if you do, give it to Scott! He's the master at getting the most out of totally worn out, cord showing through tires!!! [laugh] [moto] [bang]
