So I have been cruisin the bike around for the past 3k or so miles with the udder open (no mufflers).
I like the sound, but I def. would like it louder. My question is, if I were to cut the udder open down the middle is their something inside of it ? The flashlite look down the pipe thing shows nothing that I can see.
Anyone ?

take your earplugs out. LOUDER? with no pipes you want it LOUDER? do you live near anyone?
Leave no, LIVE yes ;D
I come from the HD/Race car world so the open udder (as it stands) is not loud to me what so ever.
Their is no way my open udder is nearly as loud as say someone with a full termi kit (and no baffles).
Some dude down the street from me has a full Zard kit (with no baffles) and his bike is twice as loud as mine with the stock udder..
a lot of the guys here got the replacement midpipe and took the udder off completely.
I was thinking of ditching the udder all together and making my own exhaust.
Really wanna do some kinda undertail but with my bike being lowered prob. isnt a
good idea..
have you seen that one off someone did for that 696 in Indy. it's all squished underthe tail. search 696 Indy
holy crap!!!! Louder than running just the udder? Maybe an amp and some subwoofers would help.

Maybe you can hook me up with some hard bags to mount the system in ? [thumbsup]
I heard you can stash your we.. in there. 8)
hahaha you want it even louder???? You are mad my friend.
Anyone who follows me gets headaches with my open udder. Maybe you could get a loudened? [laugh] wheres the pic of that knight on a bike with a flared exahust and fire comming out?
Maybe I am better off taking a real long drill bit and seeing what I hit (in the udder ) ;D

search around, there is a post with pictures of a udder in half.
From what I have read up on so far the bikes that came to the US didnt have anything in the udder, where the Euro bikes had the mesh/catalyst deal-e-o in them.
I looked again into the udder on my bike and still cant see a thing..
There is still a resonator/perforated section in the udder. I had slip on termi's with the stock udder, and it was very quiet - all I could hear was the intake honk. Replaced the udder with a straight through midpipe and the sound volume felt like it doubled - in a good way [thumbsup] I ran the bike briefly with midpipe only, no mufflers, and it was deafening - and not all that sweet sounding (like some hd's)

The pics shown here http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=12501.0 are of a US model
I would guess their is something in the udder on my bike.
I mean, their has to be becasue my bike is no where near as loud as most of the other Monsters that are ripping around the city with full/open systems on them.
The more I think of it the more I think I am going to buy a aftermarket header and make something offa it.

Did you not look at Capo's post below? That's what's in the udder and has been for years. Cored stock pipes with a bypass header are louder and a much better sound than just the udder and flow much better. I went through all this on my old 04-S4R.
Or take the udder off cut down the weld seam with a die/pencil grinder, core it out like Capo did the one in the pic. and core your mufflers and then put it all back together. It will sound great and not be obnoxious. You know like those straight piped POS Harley's that handle like crap are slow, but raise the dead loud. [bang] [bang] [bang]

LA
Not sure what I am going to end up doing.
The issue is I want the bike to sound like say someone with a full open exhaust, but want the
rear wheel to be exposed as well. Prob. going to take the bike to my chasis shop buddy and have him make me up something funky/one off using the stock pipes (just remove the udder and use the stock pipes).
We shall see what I think up over the winter...
If you WANT loud, then you can remove the udder, get some aftermarket mid-pipes and weld some tips on them like. I think Monstermash did something similar to his bike.
When I installed the QD midpipes on my bike I turned it on w/out the mufflers and OMG! It sounded like a tank was in my garage, shit started shaking off the walls, spiders came out of the cracks, birds fell of their nests...
GL!

You missed the bit about teenagers wetting their pants ;D
I def. want the bike to be loud, but I also want it to run well.
I might do something fuky like I did on my old CB450 I built -->
