Title: dead Duc
Post by: lauramonster on October 15, 2008, 10:38:11 AM
Accident Sunday.  dead Duc.  fully armored.  Knee cartilege torn.  Body rainbowed.

Feel really bad about the duc.  Went off the road on a turn and hidden in the weeds was a drainage ditch.  dropped about 18" and hit the concrete abutment at about 40 - 45 mph.  Stupid. Stupid mistake.  RIpped 3 of the 4 trellis connections (yeah, the frame separated).  If I can figure out how to post pics, I'll add them.

Looks like I'm in for PT for a while.

Insurance made good on everything.  bike, bling, gear, helmet.  Took the bike already.

I miss her.    :'(

fun photos from New Jersey Motorsports Park 10/6, then accident photos:

Oh sweetie. I'm glad you're relatively ok and that insurance is making good on everything so far.

If you need anything at all, let us know.

thanks!  So there I am - Duc EXPLODED, me tumbling on the roadway, and my husband has to choose which body part to run over.  The tank and seat both came off.  He did a great job - the floorboard hit the helmet - but I was protected.  Just got a killer headache - but that scould have been from the macadam surfing.  bike went face first (and so did I) :P

Used to make fun of the gauntlet gloves with the hard plastic knuckles.  Called them my Catwoman gloves.  They were over the top in my opinion, but were on sale so I bought them and wore them.  Thank God!!  The index knuckle was ground almost through.  ALL the plastic on the gloves were scraped up.  Only thing that happened to my hands was jammed thumbs (and a rainbow of colors at the thumb joint).  Fingers fine.

Please wear the armor & gear.  I know, it's been said over and over.  It's true.  Learn from our mistakes.  THe doctor is amazed I don't have a shattered knee cap.  It bled so bad that I've got discoloration from halfway down my thigh to half way down my shin.  Nasty, bloody deposits.  I should be a lot worse off.

Armor saved my joints, armored gloves saved my fingers, Full Face helmet save my chin, teeth and IQ.  Who knew I'd go face surfing? I'd have lost my teeth if I had a 3/4 helmet.

Okay, I'm off my soapbox.  Thanks for your support.

Sooooo glad you're OK!  The bike can be replaced, you CANNOT.  And a big +1 to the gear...  I've never worn anything but a full-face helmet after my 'gravel-vision' low-side incident.  Helmet was torn to sh*t, but my face was just fine!  [thumbsup]

Heal up well, and please let the folks on the board know if we can provide anything but the laughter and friendship that we already do.  You'll likely find that we DMF'ers are a very supportive bunch o'hooligans.

All the best on a quick recovery!

ps:  Next weeks' a good time to start bike shopping BTW...

Oh Laura, I just saw this post.  I am SO SORRY to hear about your accident.  I am exceedingly glad that you are okay.  Yes, I'm with you: FULL GEAR ALL THE TIME.  It's the only thing that makes sense.  You'll get a new motorcycle.  You can't replace you.  It's great that things worked out for you this way.

BIG hugs and lots of positive energy sent your way.

Hang in there.

Hey Laura - Hope you're starting to feel better now that you've had some time to rest up.  [thumbsup]  I know after my last spill it took a few days for my body to get out of WTF mode!

And that pic...  Damn that looks nasty. I almost let out an "OH SHIT!" from my cube. I mean, the more I look at it, the more I'm amazed that you're in 1 piece.  :o

If you need any help drowning th pain [drink] let me know. Carolyn and I would be more than happy to help out!

As for the bike - I hear thet there's a new M1100 out there.....just sayin'......

Another bike has to wait.  Doctor told me I'm going to need knee surgery in the future.  There's plenty of time to shop.  Something different.  throaty. minimal.  torquey.

Still making plans to go to Deals Gap next year.  May.  Bike or not - I'm going!

laich - thanks for the invite.  There's beer in the fridge, and I'm not getting around so well, so why don't you call when you and Carolyn are stopping by.  Had to trade vehicles with George so I could drive an automatic!!  I'm driving the 20 year old POS Ford truck and he's got the convertible 2 seater Z3.  DOn't know if I can take the blow to my ego!!

THanks for ALL the well wishes.  This is a great group of people.

Good Lord.   Ditto to all the previous messages Laura!  Really makes me appreciate my gear!
I drove a super old POS Chevy pickup last week and it was a blast.   Every pot hole and bump
was like a mini-roller coaster ride.  Randimus Maximus hit his head a few times on the headliner
(I was behind the wheel).    So just have fun with it.   Oh wait, those potholes could be more
painful for ya, nevermind.

Heal quick and get back in your Z!

chill - both meniscus (es?) are torn and the anterior crustaceon (or whatere it is that holds the knee cap) has been stretched.

Duck-Stew - you're on!  just ask the NW board - I'm an admitted beer whore.  I sold my allegiance to NW for beer!!  Maybe I can work and extra week off for surgery (read : fly out to Calif for a week before the surgery with hubby) and we can toast to bikes, friends and life!!

Ouch!! That sounds really painful.

So do you hear clicking/popping maybe even feel some grinding on that knee?

Do your homework on the ortho that will do the work on your knee. The knee is the MOST complicated joint. Good luck and I hope you get back to feeling your' normal self again soon.

Keep us updated on your progress.  [thumbsup]
