Title: Ducati Mathesis alternative?
Post by: DucHead on October 15, 2008, 01:19:38 PM
The wrench at the local shop told me that there's an inexpensive alternative to the Ducati mathesis.  The company was ...logic, or mototech or something.  I tried searching here and with Google, but I came up empty.

Does anyone know of/use an aftermarket mathesis to tune trim/mixture on FI bikes?

Oh, and I don't want/need a PCIII at this time.

I think he may have been talking about this:

I haven't used one but there are a couple of forum members who  have them.

so this will help with reseting the wrench?
will this allow you to use slipons without running too lean/rich? reseting TPS?

this interfaces with the stock ECU while PCIII replaces it?
Which is simplier for a DIYer?

what is the cost benefit of this over PCIII and is the difference worth the loss(?) of options?

sorry. so many questions, but as more slipons become available the idea of using a Termi system for a min 1000 for the SS plus going to the dealer to get your TPS reset, or getting slipons with this tool for less than 900, doesn't make financial sense.

Thanks Langanobob, that's it!!

For $195, here's what it does:
•     Blink Codes, ISO 9141-6, KWP2000 and J1850 VPW Protocols supported
•     View Real-Time Engine Parameters data (RPM, Throttle Position Sensor, Battery Voltage, Lambda, etc.) & system information
•     View & Clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes ( DTC ) from ECU (Engine Control Unit)
•     View & Clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes ( DTC ) from TSSM (Turn Signal/Security Mode))
•     Calibration settings such as: Idle Fuel Trim adjustment, Idle Adjustment
•     Reset TPS (Throttle Position Sensor), AC (Idle Air Control) actuator, AFV (Air Fuel Value), Maintenance Light, etc)
•     Perform Active Test  ( Tachometer, Injectors, Coils, Purge Solenoid, Idle Speed Control,  etc. )
•     Data Recording
•     Interfaces with Gas Analyzer
•     Interfaces with  Wideband Oxygen Sensor Controllers such as  Wego II & Wego III from Daytona
       Twintec, LM-1 & LC-1 from Innovate Motorsports and TR-M300 O2))
•     Interfaces with Bluetooth

Raux - I believe a PCIII does much more -- it essentially by-passes the ECU and allows custom air/fuel mapping.

Definitely. These are two different animals here.

The TechnoResearch tool is for operational parameter adjustments and MINOR air/fuel adjustments that are primarily for idle and closed loop (low rpm, low throttle %) operation. As well as diag functions etc.

The PCIII is a fuel (and ignition on some models) mapping tool. It is there SOLELY to get the air/fuel mixture to a given (chosen) point across the entire operational range/conditions of the engine. It is a "piggyback" system that intercepts and modifies the injector pulsewidth signals sent to the injectors to achieve the settings within its map. This device will have MUCH nore impact on how the bike runs & performs than the other.

Though the other is absolutely essential to getting the base settings of the FI system set/reset correctly.

Both are invaluable tools and do things the other cannot and should not be compared to each other as they are designed to do different things.

Here's a collection of alternatives to PCIII

Thanks CDawg...it looks like $195 is a lot to spend considering I'd use it primarily to set the idle trim.  Maybe a PCIII or the like is the way to go.

Well the Technoresearch software is still good to reset the TPS and set CO trim every 6000 miles. But i would defintely agree, PCIII or the like is the way to go!
