Ok, I've been thinking about this for a little while, but here is the short part of a long story:
A friend of a friend was hit by a Hummer whilst on his scooter. He's in bad shape, in and out of ICU with collapsed lung, etc. Good news is that he is part owner of two restaurants in Deep Ellum. Soooooo...
I thought in order to help him out, what better way than to get a group of us to show up and eat at his establishments. I thought we could couple this activity with a ride out to Lake fork in East Texas. There is a ride out that way from "Ride Texas Monthly" that I'd been meaning to check out.
Here is what I have planned.
Saturday the 25th of Oct.
Meet at Cowboy Chow (http://www.cowboychow.net (http://www.cowboychow.net)) at 1130/1200 for lunch. Go for a ride out to Emory/Quitman for a Lake Fork Ride since it is on the East side of the Metroplex (obviously negotiable). Then come back and end up at Twisted Root burgers (http://www.twistedrootburgerco.com (http://www.twistedrootburgerco.com)) for dinner after the ride as they are open until 9p on saturday. Since Jason has interest in both restaurants and they are right down the street from each other it seems like a great way to start/stop the ride. We could even throw in a stop at AMS.
I thought it'd be good to give a little advanced notice.
Please let me know if you are interested for either the whole trip or just lunch/dinner via PM/reply/email (sdlrodeo@yahoo.com)
Thanks,
Steve
I'll keep this in mind. I know exactly where both places are on Commerce in Deep Ellum. Eat at the Angry Dog all the time across from Cowboy Chow and the burger place used to be Crescent City cajun food place. Also happen to know a thing or two about Quitman and Lake Fork area. I'll see what the calender and weather brings next weekend. [thumbsup]
;D I would do this but I will be in the HC !! I've been trying to get someone to do E.Tx twists with me midweek but no-one can ever go !!
Could this happen another weekend ? If so - I'm in !!
It seems odd to me that everyone gets excited about a ride to Stephenville, but they pass on a little bit of AR in Texas an hour away - must be a Ducati thing ! [laugh]

My days off rotate a lot so I have weekdays off quite often so let me know. Be warned, I have a 10 month old and a wife at home (read: sometimes a little stir-crazy) so I may not be able to get a 'freedom pass' (kitchen pass is not politically correct or so I hear).
On another note, any chance anyone gets to patronize these establishments would be greatly appreciated. Doesn't have to be saturday only.
Steve
If I'm back by then, I will go.

I've noticed the ringtones have been foreign sounding when I called your cell. How is the trip?

just got in. Is this still on or did the date get changed? What about Dosgatos's DFW ride, maybe merge the two rides?
cdc
I think Dosgatos has to work on Saturday and I have to work on Sunday. Otherwise I'd be all for it.
Steve
;D We're gonna do this E.TX ride sometime after I get back from HC cause I wanna go & love those piney twists & hills !! [thumbsup]
I'll be happy to do it again for sure.

Hey Steve, are we riding tomorrow?
cdc
It looks like I'm definately going to be meeting there at Cowboy Chow for lunch at 1130. We'll see how many we get for a ride. If it is just me, I don't know if I'll go solo. If there is someone else willing, I'm game for a ride. So far it doesn't look like there'll be too many.
Steve
I can meet you at cowboy chow by 11:30.

Steve, I don't think it's a westie thing or eastie thing that have people passing but more so about schedules/work/other plans etc. I for one want to do that E. Tx. swing thing for sure. And better yet if you've been on the roads and know how to lead the way. Way cool. Absolutely down for that. My reason is I spent all day last Saturday at the AMS track day and my spousal unit has given me greif all week wondering if I'm going to be home this weekend. CDC can attest last night when I told her I wanted to ride Sunday she perked up and gave me ..."THE LOOK". I definately look forward to getting together for some E. Tx. road work though with you.
Did this happen?
It would def be a good thing to get on the calendar!
Yup, it did happen. It ended up being three bikes to start and two to finish the whole thing. Rex had a prior engagement that he made with 5 mins to spare and cdc and I finished and then some.
The route:
30E to 36s (past royce city) to 1564e (short sidestep on 34n then back on 1564e) to 69s/e to Emory.
From Emory @69 we took 779s/e thru Golden and Calvary to 37 n into Quitman.
In Quitman, we hopped on 154w for a short bit then 2225n to 515w across lake fork twice to 17s.
Stay on 17s thru Alba back to 779w. From 779w you will see 3274w/n (only one way to go).
3274 will drop you on 19 go north for a short hop to 69w then back to 1564w to 34s to 1564w to 36n to 30w.
Lot of nice sweepers, went quite a bit quicker than the posted speed limit but I'll never tell how much quicker.
Both restaurants are great places for a meet and should be added to the map in my opinion. They are on Commerce street in Deep elum only a few blocks from each other. Cowboy chow is only open during lunch hours. Awesome breakfast food too by the way. Twisted root burger is also mostly open only for lunch except on saturdays when it is open til 9pm.
Jason Boso is doing better according to our waiter he is home and out of ICU and he will be able to keep his lung. Still gonna take a while to heal the broken ribs, shoulder, etc.
Great time, great weather, great company, Great ride!
Next time, I'll do a bit more checking and seeing for a better date when it won't conflict with a Major ride that I secretly wish I were on instead. Heh Heh.
Sorry for the late reply to this post as my computer was having technical difficulties.
By the way, I liked cdc's lane changes in quick succession on the way home. made for a shorter return commute from emory.
Steve
My sister and brother in law live just outside of Golden.
