This thread has been officially re-titled!!! ;D

That's it folks, the season is over. It's going to be a long boring off season... as always. At least we can go on winter time rides. One of the few perks to living in this part of Texas. I'll be twiddling my thumbs until March 1st for WorldSBK (Phillip Island) and April 12th for MotoGP (Qatar)!!

By the way, just last night I finally got to watch last week's 250GP where Simoncelli wrapped up the championship. Wow. I just can't imagine trading the racing that takes place in that class for a bunch of inline 600cc four strokes spinning around the track. Just how many future great MotoGP racers will come from yet another form of 600cc 4 stroke racing?? Other than a few notables (Kenny Roberts, Nicky Hayden, Casey Stoner...) almost all the "big boy" champions have come up through the REAL grand prix racing classes, 125cc and 250cc. Not middle weight four strokes. I'm not sure how they will ultimately be different from World Supersport but there is only so much one can do. And the arguement that "they don't sell 250GP bikes for the street, race on Sunday sell on Monday" doesn't fly. They don't sell 800cc MotoGP street bikes either.

I sadly just see a huge hole in MotoGP racing starting in 2011. Next year's grid will look pretty lame with just Aprilla, a couple of Gileras and an old Honda or two. KTM will be sorely missed. I guess there will be a few privateer KTMs still out there but the factory support will be slim to none. I'm sure people lamented the passing of the 500 two stroke bikes and the racing is still pretty good. But I have had a soft spot for 250GP for a long time. That and WorldSBK are my favorite races... 800cc bikes are a distant third. Hey, at least they are on the podium!! ;D

QuoteThey don't sell 800cc MotoGP street bikes either.

However they do take the technology from the 800's and pass it on to the street bikes, and of course pass it on to those four stroke 600's that everyone will be racing soon.  So in a sense, they do sell the 800 technology in different packages.  The 250 two strokes?... not so much, considering 2 strokes are being banned for street use in so many places.

The racing is damn fine, and will be very, very sad to see go however.  If it was only about racing, then the 250's wouldn't be going anywhere.  Unfortunately for us fans, the people that pay for this stuff aren't necessarily "all about the racing."

RIP 250cc.  At least its not over... yet.  Record all those races and show them to your grandchildren.

All true. Just hate to see a great era in motorcycle racing totally disappear. The 250cc Grand Prix class has been around for ever. And sure, it will exist at the National Championship level in several countries. Just been a big fan of 250GP for decades and to have it leave just to be replaced with yet another 600/in line four class is sad. I'm sure I'm not the only fan feeling the pain. :P

Era's and the past are to be remembered. The future holds fortune. I agree it was fun to watch the series develope and become a real competitive race forum but and I too don't want to see the 4's. I do think that as evolution has gone towards the 4's so goes the market interest on the showroom floor. I mean last week's rant about the Jap-BMW was obvious in appearence it's going to be a different machine. At least that what's we're hoping for. The have been other 4's from european companies before. I'm hoping for improvement and inovation with advancement which is what racing brings.

Stoner won in his old style yesterday. It was great to watch him dominate Rossi. Hayden's remarks today will be interesting to see.

Bad Red!

Oops, it was after the race and the season. Didn't think of others which is not typical of me. I promise it won't happen again this year.
