Title: GSP Tolls
Post by: Cotton on October 21, 2008, 10:16:02 AM
Just curious, but has anyone shared a lane with a car going through a toll booth on the GSP?  Apparantly it will seem as though only one vehicle is going through and therefore avoiding to stop and pay the toll.  I've never done this but the topic came up in a conversation.  Is there any truth to this?

Sorry, Garden State Parkway.  Yeh, the theory makes sense.  If the car pays, and you ride next to it, how is the sensor (or whatever) going to distinguish between one or two vehicles?

If your looking to trick ez pass, register your bike and its license plate with them. They'll send you an ez pass unit that sends the reduced rate for motorcycles through the tolls (ex: its like $1 less to go thru the hudson river crossings, something like that). Anyway, Ive done that and usually keep my ez pass in my pocket and whip it out through the booth. The funny thing is many times on those particularly expensive tolls I just can't seem to reach it in time and it doesn't read. Technically they're then supposed to read your plate on the photo and bill your ez pass account although this has never happened for me and I have not received any tickets/fines what have you. I check my ez pass account online often and it never shows up.

That sounds like the best plan there is.  I have my ezpass ziptied to the top of my triple when i need it, maybe the pocket might be a better idea.

It wont be able to you should be able to get thru unless of course there is some law enforcement present.

Not the best idea. I had it in my pocket once and couldn`t get the zipper w/ my glove. I had to have the  [leo] reach into my pocket to get it. Then after you ride and realized you left your pocket open.   [bang]

The ez-pass hardly works anyway. I usually blow through it and the plate is hard to see under the seat. Sux when you have to wait for the bar to go up. Like everytime on the Whitestone bridge. I don`t think it ever works.

I've tried this with another bike on the GSP and it works.  Just use the express lane (which is wider than normal tolls) and you'll be all set.  Been living in Jersey for a year and never got a ticket for riding through together with a car or a bike.

You may want to try sticking the ezpass (using the industrial strenght velcro that came with it) behind the 1098 nose fairing.  I have mine there on my 749 and it was works everytime (so far on Bear Mountain Bridge, GWB, Tappan Zee Bridge).
