Title: spark plug question
Post by: muskrat on October 21, 2008, 11:06:56 PM
Hey guys,
found a used Duc and it looks good.  here's the rub....if it sits for more than a week it needs new plugs, according to the current owner.  what could be the cause of the problem and would you suggest a dollar amount to fix it?  want to know if it's worth the money.
Thanks

Run, do not walk, run away. It may look good but obviously something is very wrong. At least the current owner was honest... rare these days. :P Plugs just don't go bad sitting in an engine for a week. No way. No more so than sitting on a shelf at a Pep Boys. If they are oil fouled it could be because piston rings or valve seals are non existant and it's seeping 10w40 into the combustion chamber. If they are wet fouled from fuel it's either carb or fuel injection trouble in a major way, depending on the model's intake system. It could be problematic at best and very expensive at worst... or both. Run.

Well, if you can buy it cheap enough, & have time/money to repair, might be worth it.... judgement call :P

yes I saw the post and sent him an email.  Hopefully he'll respond and accept the offer I made.  Road trip if so.  [cheeky]
