Title: services after 6k
Post by: yellowjacket on October 22, 2008, 11:48:47 PM
hey all, when I bought my 03 M800s ie this summer, it had 6300 miles and the previous owner showed me paper having had its 6k service done.  I've since put in 2500 miles and wondering what services comes next.  I know that I need to have a oil change but anything else?  What typically comes next in major services (besides 12k)?

On an 03 model the 12K would be next.

Belts every two years or 12K and regular oil changes.

You will probably find the valves are staying in adjustment after the 12K and may not need adjustment every 6K.

You still need to check them though

What dp said.  I'll second the though on not needing much adjustment after 12K.  I did my 18K, 24K and 30K and have yet to have to make any changes at any of those intervals ~

The guy that does mine is fanatical about closer tolerance....

My bike has close to 30K and he'll generally adjust a closer or two when he does them...and replaces the busted half rings...which necessitates an adjustment after it pounds in. [bang] [bang]

I will say that after I added a tach the broken half rings have stopped.

My closers haven't changed in the past two services.   My openers have moved .01mm.  Maybe I need a tach, but I've found no broken half-rings ~

When I say fanatical...

I mean they must have 0.00000 clearance.

It takes him about 1/2 hour to do a 2V.

It takes me longer to remove the covers to check. [bang] [bang] [bang]

That's pretty nutty...  It look me probably 45 minutes or so, BUT I already had the tank off replacing the fuel filter & stuff so that made it lots easier ~
