Simple physics...
3300 lb car
7" tall concrete curb
70 mph
car * speed +(tangent of curb) = 40 feet free-flight before the tires make contact again.
See pictures for reference.
My back and neck hurt a little. Otherwise, no other damage to yours truly, innocent bystandards, or property.
Oh, and by the way, I crashed right in front of my place of employment during afternoon rush hour - so I had the pleasure of about 7 co-workers stopping on the road to make sure I was okay.
I'm scared to think what my back and neck might feel like in the morning.

Shifted from 1st into 2nd at about 70pmh. Gave it a bit too much throttle into 2nd, the rearend broke free and passed me on the left. Lost all hope of correcting by the time the car had rotated about 70 degrees clockwise. Hit the curb at that point and the car went airborn. Either that impact, or the landing triggerd both airbags. Funny thing was - I was glued to my seat, so the car must have been going (mostly) backwards when the bags deployed.

I hope I feel better too. I've made a tough decision and won't be going on the HC ride. My back continues to gradually get more tender as the night goes on. Riding on the twisties of the Three Sisters certainly won't help me relax it properly. :-\
Glad to hear you are ok and taking it in stride (with sense of humor intact).
Those cars can definitely get twitchy. After a get-together, someone with a Z06 peeled out in front of my buddies and lost control...right into a ditch/ravine...the car didn't plunge another 15 feet down because a small tree manage to keep it on the edge...

Just don't feel like taking a chance with a back injury. Proper care now can be the difference between long term chronic problems later down the road. 3-4 days of riding isn't what most chiropractors would classify as "proper care". :'(

Yeah, got to respect the power. Just got too complacent and made a stupid judgement that cost me. Fortunately didn't cost anyone else - I consider myself very lucky in that regard. Over 60,000 miles behind the wheel of that car and never had something like this happen. I should know better, dog gone it! [roll]

Ok, I won't ask you why you guys weren't at the Saucer tonight. Hope you're feeling better soon. Remember the meds when you go down to THC.
Yeppers, I had a '78 Hi-Po too. They can sure get away from you in a quick. I'd say about 15-20k or a new one.
What is it with the Karma around us these days?
Please, everybody be oh so careful on the ride this weekend. I don't want to hear of any more accidents.

You could still kick back and relax at K.R. headquarters. Honestly, you shouldn't be at home worrying about the details of the wreck. That'll only agitate your tender back. You need R&R my friend. You woudn't need to ride to have fun as you know. Do you have a hot tub at home? Surely you won't have gallons of beer at your disposal.

Thanks for the offer. I think it's more serious than cosmetic damage (obvious if fluids came out). In fact, the first shop (who I hold in high regard), took a look at it on Friday. They told me it was more than they were capable of taking on because there is probable engine damage. They suggested getting it into a Chevy dealership so they can adequately tear it down, and possibly to pull engine to fully expose all damage for the adjuster to see. I spent most of the day on the phone setting the stage for the adjuster to go take a look at the car (sometime between Monday and Thursday - sounds like the cable guy schedule). I'm expecting repair costs to be so high as to result in it being totaled. :-\
:'(
I still don't think my truck has made it to the shop :-\
Wholy Mholy Jim! I need to pay more attention to threads that don't sound interesting. Sorry about pestering you with the phone and PMs [bow_down]
Take care of yourself man, Bon's torso did'nt hurt right away, so give it some time and heal up. More rental cars parking around Ducs in the neighborhood.

Well, got the news today. Insurance declared the vehicle a total loss. :'(
Over $17K in damages - and that was only from a visual inspection. The shop recommended putting it on a lift and pulling some parts off. No doubt that would have uncovered a few more expensive damages. I suppose the adjuster stopped around the $17K mark just to save time.
My poor car... :( I went and visited it for the last time today. It felt like I was 12 years old and burying my dog in the back yard. <sniff sniff> I know that you guys can relate - being as passionate about your Ducati's and all. And those of you who've totalled one (or two, or three, or...) can also relate.

Thanks for the offer. Actually, I already hit the car and nabbed several hundred $$$ in aftermarket stuff and returned it to stock in about 1.5 hours. The only thing I couldn't get were the LG longtubes, x-pipe, and cats. Woulda been nice - those were pricey. The catback would have been an easy sell too, but found the tips had been flattened (probably by the tow truck), so I left them. We didn't have a lift, so removing the longtubes would have been a PITA.
