I don't even have my M696 yet, but I'm already worried about its well-being! [roll] :P
I know there's lojak, but I think it's pretty expensive, right?
Is there a more affordable means of securing a motorcycle?
Thanks :)
If no garage, the best option is a cover and a place to chain it to.

It will be garage kept... but I live in a high rise, so it's a garage that 400 other people have access to.
Also, I'm gonna be riding to places and parking there for long periods of time (i.e. work, restaurants, etc.). I can't carry a chain with me wherever I go, right?
P.S. Your signature is hilarious, hahaha
Im sure you can find a place to chain it to while your under.
Meanwhile, for everyone else, your just gonna have to deal with it like everyone else. suck it up. its a bike, and if someone wants it, it will be stolen from you.
If you can afford it, get insurance on it and get some theft deterrents. this is mine.

no guarentee, but between your bike and the other 10 bikes parked, yours is the only bike thats making noise. What will the guy do? hit the bike without the alarm going off. But again, if thye want it, they will have it, unless its chained to a solid mass like a light post.
I leave the key in mine. :P

not really a theft prevention, but rather a way to track it and possibly get it back if it does get stolen. i found this on a scooter forum. basically you buy one of those prepaid phones with certain services and then sign up for mologogo tracking. its a free deal that can give gps coordinates to where the phone is at and where its been. just get the phone and stick it somewhere on your bike that nobody will find it and hardwire a charger to your battery so you can put it there and forget about it.

Also, though nice to keep it chained in the parking garage, and though already mentioned about covering it, Dont forget to cover the bike in the parking garage. After a while, the people in your complex will know you have a duc. Having a cover on it every time it is in the garage will make lengthen the time it takes for everyone to find out.
You could always sleep next to it [thumbsup]

+1.
Covering also keeps any curious kids away from playing with it.
I don't think that chain will be a problem for a thief. If you plan to leave it next to the building where you are at, then get an alarm with a radio pager. It has level sensors and once your is bike moved a little the alarm will go off and you will receive a message on your pager - grab the baseball bat and go ;D That's what I would like to do for the next season. Perhaps get an insurance for theft only. It is five times less expensive than full insurance for the damage you do to the bike.
PS. First example I got from aunt google: http://www.commandocaralarms.com/itemdetails.asp?ProductID=1467
Here's a thought......uhhh damn it i lost it.
no i got it.
If you have never dealt with an insurance co. here is some first hand exp. You will never get from them what the bike is really worth. They give you low blue book and don't forget your deductible which means 9 times out of ten whatever you would have spent on theft deterrent is less than what you lost from value of bike. Oh yeah and piece of mind is priceless.
Ive been thinking about this for a while. Where the frick would you put a "compact" 3" x 3" coke can of a siren and transmitter box on a bike with zero fairings??? The air box??? Someone please chime in with a place to put/hide all those electronics.
I've got the Scorpio paging alarm. It's more like the size of a wide deck of cards. It fits under the seat OK, and I've heard others have installed it up near the airbox.
I love it for what it does, but I doubt the range of any paging alarms would do much good in a high rise apartment building though, unless you are on the floor just above the garage. The concrete does a pretty good job of stopping the signal. Maybe I need to adjust my antenna placement.
