Title: departing of one?
Post by: James.M on October 23, 2008, 10:34:15 PM
so I think I've come to the conclusion that I may be departing with one of my children...
I am taking school more and more seriously and just switching my major next semester and cutting down alottttttt of luxuries I dont need...
Im going to do everything I can to keep my 1098 (altho she protects the garage) and probably be putting the 999 up... she needs a little work but will be cheap.
I thought I'd let you know...  :(

Hey there James - long time no hear.  Sounds like you're staying busy  :o  Thought Brian had pissed you off or something  [evil]  [laugh]  ( j/k Brian  ;D ).

If I may contribute my .02 on behalf of your 999 (think I've probably seen it at least half a dozen times over the years):

First off,  $3,500 for this bike is fair.  James bought it used in less than... how shall I say, stellar   condition.  There may be one or two mechanical issues, but none that I remember being show-stoppers.  Most of what this bike needs is cosmetics... like Sharkskins, for example  [evil]   It's prolly due for an eleventy-billion dollar routine maintenance - which would also explain the price... James?

If I weren't in financial lock-down mode, I'd buy this bike in a second, put some track plastics on it (and a bad-ass Ducati XEROX sticker kit  [laugh] ) and then thrash the thing without mercy at every track day on the calendar.

Someone buy this bike!

That is exactly my thinking straight up. I am really trying hard to fight it but I don't think I can much longer in holding off buying a track bike. I'll be talking to the bank on Monday! So, I don't think JM will have to wait long to sell it. Although there are other bikes out there on ebay and the forum that are quasi-track ready I'd much rather buy one from one of us. I really literally can't wait much longer...yep there they go again...those uncontrolable urges.

Hey Guys, thanks so much for the interest in the bike and wanting to "help" me out... hahaha

well like lisa said most of that is correct, along what pipeliner said, it does have a small oil leak and haven't had time to check it out (it really isn't that big of a leak, and may just be because the oil filter is loose, again I need to investigate)... let me get all the details together and post full condition along with pictures, If someone is truly interested in the bike and show interest after details I'll sell the bike as soon as there ready to buy it (ie, could be before the end of the year).

Please give me a week or so to get my sh*t together with the bike, school and the 9 million and 1 things im working on and I'll keep you posted. Thanks again so much and Lisa for the good word, much appreciated!

lets keep the PM to a minimum until I have the details of the bikes up please, I'd hate for all ya'll be waiting on my response when im so busy!

James

Also:  you are selling the wrong child ;)

I was just telling someone the story about me in high school being in the weird position of choosing between the hot girl that wanted to go out with me, and the only slightly less hot girl that wanted to go out with me.  Now, reason tells the right choice to make here, and going out with the slightly less hot girl would have no doubt resulted in a nice lenghty relationship that would have been rewarding, full of life lessons and personal growth.  But no, I went out with extra hot one, and it barely hit the two week mark.

Of course, my wife is one of those rare exceptions where I chose the hot one AND it worked out.  But, as many of you know, it ain't easy.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is keep the 999, ditch the "other" bike, and look up my almost-ex girlfriend from high school.  Trust me.

If you don't take my advice, that's cool too, but pull your Termis and sell them to me on the side.  I won't tell Red, I promise ;)

well patrick, that's quite simple.

Just because a man admires beauty, doesn't mean he can afford to keep her.

I have Joe the Plumber's salary with 4 bikes and 4 kids.  I could afford to buy it, but not sure I can afford to own it.

I thought Joe the plumber earned $250K and that's why his taxes were going up or did I miss half of the BS.  :o

BS yes, O thinks that small businesses don't make over 250k/yr so they won't be hurt when raises taxes for everybody who makes 250k/yr. or more. Now, in the U. S. the "rich" compromise about 5% of the total population. WSJ says that 40% of all Americans don't  pay taxes. Out of the remaining 55% those who actually do pay taxes would amount to about 40%. So if one does the math correctly you can see that of what O says only about 40% of gainfully employed persons in the U. S. will get a "tax break" not 95% like he's saying. Does this make sense?

Sorry JM, I think this is called thread jacking.

Tommy, have you considered selling one of the kids to keep the bikes? I tried that with Colin but the word is out on the street that he's not self motivated and doesn't pick up his room or make his bed without heavy handed supervision. That kills the out the door price on kids instantly. The haggling is not worth it, especially in this market and the way the economy is. But since he is actually titled under a different name it luckily hasn't effected my bike situation... at least not yet. Thought I'd try to move him before he gets many more miles... those teenage, 12,000 mile services are murder on the pocketbook. [laugh]

12,000 mile services ?    I'm worried about the $12,000 bail   [bang]   [laugh]

And damn it, Svoloch, McCain said if I'd put in a "good word" on the board about his 999, he'd give ME the Termis so, go bump a stump   [cheeky]
