Oh snap, save 7lbs the easy way :)
Dood, what's with all the scales? Something you want to tell us about? ;)

Cost?
LOL.... if you don't measure what you are swapping out, you'll never know if it's lighter or not.
$250 for the batter. 7 lbs lighter, and better CCA than a stock replacement :) No, it's not terribly cheap, but try and save 7 lbs somewhere else for 250$ :)

A months worth of healthy food for 1
true, but people spend $250 on a small bit of CF for their bike, and get no real gain out of it (other than looks). Start adding it up, and it WILL make a difference. I'll have this thing 370ish lbs before doing anything really crazy to it :)

I'll be stocking those actually :) working a deal out with the mfg next week.
Thats the large batt too. Race bikes can use a much smaller, 8 ounce version. The changeover point on ducs from drain to charge is ~3700rpms, and I generally don't buzz around above that, hence why I'm going with the larger batt. For a 4 cylinder normal compression, the smaller one is fine. For anything high comp, you'll want the larger one.
chopping off the rear section of the steel frame, and fabbing an aluminum one is going to be a large chunk in and of itself. I'd estimate around 15lbs can be saved back there, perhaps more depending on what seat/tail section I go with.
Hmmm...I didn't see batteries on Motec's website. :-\

I've been following your posts on the "Ti" bits, and now this! It would be a great thing to keep a spread sheet going on weight saved / cost to lose it. Let us know if you want a PM to get on a list of some sorts, unless you plan on being a vendor sponsor of sorts.
Did or are you posting the rear section process? Very interested in seeing how that works out for you!

are you a competitive racer?

What he said. I've been searching in vain for a compact battery for years now...

Not even :D Sold/parting out my 999 though, to get a dedicated track bike, and go have some fun this coming season. Looking for a TZ, RS250, or something similar. REALLY considering buying a WR450, and making it into one of those super singles (450moto.com)

PM or email me, I will be carrying them in my e-store soon :) They are made to order, but are worth it. The small pack will run a race bike for 30-40 mins, charge in under 30 minutes, and last FOREVER.
It's a LI-IRON (not ION) battery. Has technology to stop discharge when it hits 2v's to prevent any memory in the battery. Lots of other features.
Not to mention the race pack only weighs 11ounces. :o
Another manufacturer... also does a lot with motec [thumbsup]

Thorsten gets them from the same guy I do :)
:o My race Monster is very curious....pm sent [thumbsup]
Can you post up the specs of the larger battery or send me a PM. Thanks [thumbsup]
Finally some to look forward to after find out my battery died [thumbsup]
Superbike batteries (240 CCA / 1lb 6.9oz) = $214.00
Supersport batteries (120 CCA / 11.9oz) = $132.00

Will this work on a high compression motor? I tried running a PC310 and it would not turn the motor over. [bang]
Well, easiest way to see would be to check the CCA (Cold cranking amps) of your current battery. If it's higher than 240, I'd stick with what you've got. A larger pack could be made to give it additional CCA, for a price. With AO's old 916 in your sig, it probably won't be a problem for you [laugh] [drink] [thumbsup]
So on the 4V, with the battery sitting on the side, this battery will do fine?
Nice find.

What battery are you running then? The PC310 has 310 CCA for 5 seconds, which is a lot more than a stock battery.
Sound to me like the PC310 was either bad, or not properly charged up.

+1: 310 CCA for 5 seconds, 250 CCA for 10 seconds, 225 CCA for 20 seconds, 200 CCA for 30 seconds.
I'm thinking about getting the race version for my race monster, but I'm still wondering something.... You said that it would run for 30-40 minutes? Doesn't the engine running at high revs while on the track keep the charge up? I'm asking because there are some races where I may get into trouble because I would be running for more than 40 minutes. Am I thinking correctly that it should be fine if the bike keeps running over the 4K RPM?
I know that you pm'd me and said that it would work but I didn't follow up with these questions, so I am here.
Thanks [beer]

I ran a Yuasa YT 7 in my track bike and never had any issues.
I would think a properly operating charging system would keep any battery sufficiently charged.
The battery does need to be able to crank the motor long enough to start in the first place.
You said race bike, so I assumed you were running a total-loss system (no charging/alternator).
The smaller battery will work fine for you, the only real function of the battery is to start the bike, and at low RPM's run the accessories.
Gotcha...that's what I was thinking. I'll order one from you soon.
Thanks [beer]
