I had a significant (maybe a cup or so?) amount of oil leak from my airbox while on a fairly spirited ride this past Sunday. The oil came out of the crankcase breather and then leaked from the airbox vent hose. I did a little searching and saw reference to 'a bit of oil misting the airbox'. In my case the amount was quite a bit more, my rear tire ended up coated and I'm actually quite lucky to have not crashed.
I've scheduled an appointment with my dealer but I'm curious if the board can offer some suggestions for why this might have occurred. The bike is an 08 S2R1K with about 2500 miles on it. The last service was the 600 mile done by the dealer. So it seems unlikely to be over filled. And the bike wasn't hot when I noticed the problem and shut it down. I'm assuming the problem is due to increased pressure in the crankcase. What else could cause this?

Long wheelies have been known to cause oil in the air box.
My old carby 900 will mist the airbox, but IMO a cup is excessive.
Just because the dealer changed the oil is no guarantee it wasn't overfilled.
How is the level now?
Assuming it was not overfill issue, I'd take it easy on it until your dealer has a chance to look at it. Might be a cracked compression ring causing excessive blow by. Burning any oil?
So the dealer checked out the bike and here's what they found so far:
* Compression test is good
* Oil level is good now, even though it lost a fair amount. This suggests it was at least a little over-full.
* The dealer has test ridden it on the street and on the dyno and is not able to recreate the problem.
They have a couple more (unlikely) things to check out and the lead tech said he'd call the regional service manager to see if he has other ideas. Assuming they don't find anything, who would be worried about riding the bike again?
