Hey so I'm looking for a new bike. Not sure if I'll be able to afford a 1098, let alone the insurance on it, so I'm in the market for a 998. I'm still interested in others ie R1, CBR1000RR, but would much rather to end up on a Duc. Let me know if you know, so then I'll know.
Have you seen this 996, don't know anything about it. Not a 998, but could satisfy you Duc lust.

You have a PM. I might sell my 998.
Check you PM
I've got an '04 999S I would like to sell.
I know the 999 is a great bike, but I just can't do the stacked headlights. Simply can't sport it when I like the 998 as much as I do.
I emailed on that 996, but haven't heard back yet. We shall see if that develops.
I'm not sure what you are looking for on that 998, and I'm not sure how high I'll be able to go. Like I said, it all depends on what insurance gives me... Hopefully I'll know by the end of the week, and it should be a good chunk of change. I'm shooting for five figures.
Just outa curiousity, you got any pics of it handy? And do you have the stock parts as well? You can send to Keshtak@hotmail.com, or post up here if you got the time. Thanks...
Shaun
I need to take some pics of the pic. I will get those to you soon.
I will let you know
Steve
I also sent you a Private Message on the board

So I finally got a response from this guy after about 10 days. The reply, and I quote, "its still for sale". That's it. No more info, nothing. I think we got a real salesman on our hands.
So, I'm also slightly considering an S4R if there is one of those kicking around. I also came across this:

I'm guessing the insurance quote on that would be just as stupid as a 1098 tho, but the price on it is sweet, and the colors are perfect. Now if I could just get someone to ride it from LA to Denver....
nevermind ! ;D
So I did get a pm and its on me now to get pics to him.
Just wondering opinions on this. I had that R1, bone stock, and rode it from Boulder to SLC, to Tahoe, to San Fran, around the Sierras, back to SLC, through Aspen, and back home in about 23 days (3300mi), with only some discomfort, even with the stock seat. That given, I've been reading reviews and all that and all I hear is that the position on a 998 is sporty, to say the least, and my ass will be somewhere between medium well and hockey puck by the time I get off it. Is it that bad?
I'm willing to put up with quite a bit just so long as a bike will deliver, but my use for it is riding around town (ie I don't touch my car 4 or so months a year). I live for canyons, and will head up Boulder canyon to Ned 2-5 times a week, but it's still my daily driver all summer long.
That R1 was just my baby and the first real bike I ever had, and I just want to find something that will satisfy my love to ride as much, preferably more. I guess I'll just have to ride a 998 to find out...
I had a 2003 R1 black and silver loved that bike. I rode it 550 in one day and damm that kicked my ass.
I think that the 998 is very similiar maybe a tad more agressive but not much.
From a canyon point of view the 998 is one of the best bikes Ive ever been on.
It did take a couple of rides to get used to it compared to the R1
Thats my take on it.

On that trip I did about that 2 days in a row. My biggest complaint was the pain in my ass. Literally. Well that makes it easy for you to compare because I was really wondering the two bikes side by side how they are. Is the 998 as fast in a straight line, mainly does it *feel* as fast? I really loved that bike...I feel like it's going to be hard for me to love another as much... You never forget your first love.
Anyways, I'll probably know on Friday what the final say is with insurance and I'll be able to talk to you from there. The pictures are pretty much exactly what I'm looking for, except I must admit, I liked the gold/silver wheels a lil' more, and Termis. That's not hard to fix tho. Still got the stock parts? And what's up with the passenger seat? Thanks for the pics too...keep 'em coming.

Keshtak, Google "Ducati 998" there are a lot of test drive and track comparisons. very interesting!
Well, I finally settled with the insurance company. They gave me over $13k for a 2003 R1 and all my gear. The doc said I'm fine, and I feel good. Unfortunately, I used a decent amount of it to settle up some debt, but I am good to go to purchase a bike in the $9k range...I could probably muster $10k if you got something really sweet. I'd love a white 848, but that's pretty hard to come by. No 999, sorry...they just don't do it for me. Coming off an R1 tho I want some oomph. Anyways...lemme know.

PM'd ya. You might be interested
Tomorrow I am going out to visit the R1 that was supposed to be shipped up to Colorado last spring.
I will get the exact details on it's status. I know he does still want to sell it, but how many miles are on it now, what he needs for it, etc., I do not know right now.
So I got a buddy looking for a first bike. His budget is $5k. Anyone got an extra monster they wanna get rid of in that range?
My monster is up for sale. Sad I know.
