Yes it is. I think that it is a bad move, but what do I know. I'm sure that the street fighter will sell very well. I feel that the M1100S is a little pricey.

+1 svo.

I am however disappointed with the 7500 redline.  My current M1000S revs to 8250 at hits it pretty quickly.  I was hoping the new bike would rev to at least that or 8750-9000.  Maybe having a stout torque number has something to do with it.

Peak power at 7500 does not mean that is where the revlimiter will be.
The power output of most engines peaks a fair bit before the "redline"/revlimiter.

For example: My 900SS.  Peak power happens at about 7500RPM.  Redline is 9000RPM.

True.

From the dyno graphs that I've seen on at least my three bikes, the peak is followed by an HP fall off and from my experience, the rev limiter kicks in very shortly thereafter.  This is from the Ducati website and mirrors my graph more or less.

I have about 500+ revs before the limiter kicks in and it does so abruptly which kills the drive I would be trying to build whether trying to pass or trying to merge with traffic from an onramp.  It would be great if the peak HP can be held past peak with only a little fall off to give you a bigger overrev cushion but I don't think my bikes do that and I suspect this bike wouldn't either.  JMO

If this Monster will peak at 7500 and hang on to 9000 RPM with out a big fall in HP numbers that would be impressive.

The ST4S graph is similar to this.

It has maybe 750 revs to the limiter.  Of course this is a different motor.

The 1100DS motor in my Hyper seems to rev out to the 8500+rpm range, although it is definitley tunded for midrange in stock trim.

I hope the one in the new Monster does too.  It lists more HP but torque at a higher peak RPM.  Curious how the difference in delivery of power between the bikes will be.

Redline on the 1100 is 8500 or 9000.  Don't remember zigactly as I was wickin' it up when I hit redline.  Each time.   [evil]  Seriously, don't be disappointed with the power curve.  All I know is that the engine was a kickass 2V street engine.  Really fun.  In stock form, there's a big hit of power/torque at about 5.5k and you ride it to about 7.5k where you want to shift anyway.  With an exhaust, it would open it up more down low, I bet.

Thanks for the info Spidey [thumbsup]

For those that don't go into the GMF... Spidey got to spend a few days with the M1100 in Spain *drool*

I read that entire thread several times over. I really like the bike.

So I wonder how many people are going to be dropping their Red 1098 for a white 1198  ;D

I know it has really gotten my attention, I like the fit of the 696 sized frame, and love that motor in the HM, it would be sweet in a bike 20lbs lighter.  The HM's are geared shorter (15/42  vs 15/39)  but that would be an easy mod for the M1100.

The streetfighter looks kinda like a sue zook to me.  It's a badarse looking bike fo SHO, but I think it looks like something that sue zook already has out.  I should know, I see nothing but japanese bikes around killeen where I go to school...that's all that the army boys ride....that or cruisers.

High praise then.  Good to know.  Thanks Spidey and Bryant.

I like the way the new Monster looks.  I'm curious to know if it was just a styling exercise or a functional one that led them to change the swingarm from a double a la Desmosedici to a single sided a la SBK.  I would have thought the DSSA could be made lighter and stiffer less expensively than the SSSA and would carry the look of the bike from the M696 to the M1100.
