Title: Leather pants - suggestions anyone?
Post by: stopintime on November 02, 2008, 08:48:19 AM
I would like to get a 2 piece suit, but I might have to settle for just the pants - for a while (money!)

My favorite is Dainese, the fit is good for me. Probably need Euro size 60. I don't mind color, preferably grey/black with quite a lot of red, maybe some white.

Ideas/pictures/links for brands, designs and vendors?

I have the alpinestars track pants and I like them. They are very similar to the dainese delta and you can eventually zip them to a jacket to make a two piece suit. Look on ebay, I got mine there for a good price and they were hardly used.

Times that you can wear leather pants:

On a track doing three bills or more.
Your a Rock Star.
Your a stripper (sorry fellas, females only and they should be Chaps).
Your have lost your dignity. Or a bet. Or both.

Times that you should not wear leather pants:

All other times

Feel free to add to the list, I realize I may have missed one or two - like Halloween - or the Villiage People tribute band your auditioning for.

I have the Dainese Firefly which is all black and has great knee and shin protection.

Also have Dainese Mekong all black w, zip pockets in front , excellent knee and shin protection.

Also have Dainese  SF Perforated all black w, white Alien sliders. They have belt loops and excellent knee and shin protection.

All 3 models I have mentioned have 2 sets of zippers in the back of the bottoms  of the legs. 1 is to release the leg for extra calf relief the other opens up the leg so to make for easy on/off .

Leather is soft but thick and there is some padding for hips . All but the SF have YKK zippers.

Can't go wrong w, these pants.  All have zipper to Jacket feature.  Dolph

At first I was looking at the Icon Automag pants, but didn't really want to get into an overpant.

I see now Joe Rocket has come out with their Pro Street line of leather pants.  I too am interested to going to leather in pants but I don't really want the racer boy look with pucks and all.  Especially for riding only on the street.

I like the A* Bat pants I got for dedicated ride. It's got the padding and skip protection, but doesn't have the pucks, so you avoid some of the "boy racer" look.

I'm thinking of picking up a pair of their Twin pants, or maybe a pair of leather overpants for casual riding when I'm running errands on the bike.

I like the First Gear leather clothing.  Good fit, nice features and super soft, yummy leather feel.  I have the Nevada pants and a jacket that is a different model (I don't remeber the name).  With only a reasonable amount of care, mine have 10 years and probably 20,000 miles behind them (I use First Gear mesh in hot weather) and are almost like new.

There was a time I vowed to never wear leather pants. But after the road rash I got from my accident, I don't care anymore if they accentuates my flat ass.

Picked up a pair of Teknic chicaine pants in the beginning of the season on closeout for $129. I don`t know if you can get them anymore. I lowsided at about 55 in them and slide a good 30 ft into the woods. They just got dirty. Worth every penny and are comfortable.

Don't know if they're available in Oslo, but I'm pretty happy with the fit & comfort of Teknics leather gear, including the Chicane pants. They zip up nicely with my perforated Teknics Violator jacket & the combo is comfortable in everything from quite chilly up here in the Arizona mountains (with the liner) to down in the punishing heat of Arizona summer. It's the 2007 Violator, and with everyone closing them out for the new model & the Chicane pants on closeout at NewEnough & elsewhere, there's a decent chance you can do the full two-piece for what you're expecting to pay for just the pants. Though things may be different in Oslo...

And here's another time to wear leather gear: whenever you damn please.

Dolph,

I have the Mekong too, but mine doesn't come with the dual zipper on the bottom of the legs.  Are you Mekong's fairly new?

By the way, you cannot go wrong with Dainese.

Bogie has issues.

I have the Cortech Decker overpants ($200).  They have a full circumference zip into the Cortech jackets.  I've had both for years (a few cross-country trips and several up and down the East coast of the US) and they've held up quite well.
